Carcinoembryonic Antigen Messenger RNA in Pelvic Lavage Fluid Predicts Local Recurrence After Curative‐Intent Resection of Rectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Pelvic lavage carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) mRNA was quantified in 178 patients undergoing curative‐intent resection for rectal cancer. Positive pelvic lavage CEA mRNA was significantly associated with local recurrence and provided additional prognostic information beyond circumferential resection margin (CRM) status.

Peritoneal metastases of colorectal cancer:from biomarkers to therapeutic innovations [PDF]

open access: yes
Treating peritoneal metastases in colorectal cancer remains a major challenge. This thesis explored how these metastases can be better predicted and treated.

Impact of Histopathological Response on Outcomes After Surgical Resection Following Carbon‐Ion Radiotherapy for Pancreatic Cancer With Arterial Involvement

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Carbon‐ion radiotherapy (CIRT) provides superior dose distribution and higher biological effectiveness than conventional X‐ray radiotherapy and has emerged as a promising component of multidisciplinary treatment for advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).

Prognostic factors influencing survival in patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for isolated colorectal peritoneal metastases: a systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesColorectal Disease, 2020
Peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer confer the worst survival among all metastatic sites. The adoption of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) can offer selected patients with isolated colorectal ...

Impact of Postoperative Infectious Complications on Long‐Term Survival After Curative Resection for Colorectal Cancer: A Multicenter Study in the Minimally Invasive Era

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Postoperative infectious complications (PICs) have been associated with poor long‐term outcomes after colorectal cancer surgery, but evidence in the modern minimally invasive era remains limited. In this multicenter cohort of 5377 patients undergoing curative resection, PICs were independently associated with worse overall survival and relapse‐free ...

Prognostic Impact of Circumferential Resection Margin in Minimally Invasive Surgery for Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer: A Multicenter Prospective Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This multicenter prospective study provides the first Japanese evidence that circumferential resection margin positivity after minimally invasive surgery is associated with poorer long‐term outcomes in locally advanced rectal cancer. As the cohort predominantly included patients treated with upfront surgery, these findings provide important evidence to

Gastric cancer: prevention and treatment of peritoneal metastases

open access: yes, 2018
Gastric cancer is an aggressive malignancy that may metastasize through the bloodstream to the liver, through lymphatics to regional lymph nodes, or by penetration of the peritoneal lining of the stomach to result in seeding of the abdominal and pelvis ...

Biological Resectability in Colorectal Liver Metastases: A Nomogram‐Based Continuous Risk Model to Define Borderline Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
KRAS mutation demonstrated a prognostic impact according to primary tumor sidedness, independent of tumor morphology, in patients undergoing hepatectomy for colorectal liver metastases. A nomogram integrating biological and clinicopathological factors was developed to provide continuous biological risk assessment.

The impact of surgical staging in patients with colorectal peritoneal metastases scheduled for CRS-HIPEC

open access: yesPleura and Peritoneum
Surgical staging procedures are used to select patients with peritoneal metastases for surgery. We aimed to evaluate the impact of surgical staging procedures and the risk of abdominal wall recurrences in patients with peritoneal metastases scheduled for

Concomitant intraperitoneal and systemic chemotherapy for extensive peritoneal metastases of colorectal origin: protocol of the multicentre, open-label, phase I, dose-escalation INTERACT trial

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2019
Introduction Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS-HIPEC) has become standard of care for patients with peritoneal metastases of colorectal origin with a low/moderate abdominal disease load.
