Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Cardioprotective Effect of Hydroxysafflor Yellow A via the Cardiac Permeability Transition Pore
Myocardial ischemia damages cardiac myocytes in part via opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore. Preventing this poreʼs opening is therefore a useful therapeutic goal in treating cardiovascular disease. Hydroxysafflor yellow A has been

Ionomycin suppresses cancer cell growth by disrupting mitochondrial transcription
In this study, we identify a new function for the selective Ca2+ ionophore, ionomycin, as an inhibitor of mitochondrial transcription. Both total and nascent RNA analyses revealed that ionomycin treatment reduces the transcription of mitochondrial genes.

Perspectives on the mitochondrial permeability transition
The permeability transition, a sudden permeability increase of the inner mitochondrial membrane that is greatly favored by Ca2+ accumulation, has puzzled mitochondrial scientists for more than 40 years.

Redox Regulation of the Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore
The recent data on redox regulation of the mitochondrial cyclosporin-sensitive pore are reviewed here. They indicate that the pore is modulated by the redox state of pyridine nucleotides and glutathione at two independent sites. Special attention is paid to experimental approaches for studying this phenomenon in isolated mitochondria.

Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore: The Cardiovascular Disease’s Molecular Achilles Heel
The mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) plays a central role in myocardial injury. Upon reperfusion after myocardial infarction, oxidative stress, calcium overload, and ATP depletion promote mPTP opening, leading to mitochondrial ...
