OTUD6A‐Mediated Deubiquitination of PRDX1 Protects Against Oral Ulcer by Restoring Mitochondrial Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In human oral keratinocytes, OTUD6A promoted cell migration by deubiquitinating and stabilizing PRDX1. Conversely, OTUD6A deficiency reduced PRDX1 stability, triggering mitochondrial dysfunction and aggravating OU progression. ABSTRACT Oral ulcers (OU), as the most highly prevalent and recurrent oral mucosal lesion, have an unclear pathogenesis that ...

A primer on peroxiredoxin biochemistry [PDF]

open access: yesFree Radical Biology and Medicine, 2015
Peroxiredoxins were not recognized as a family of enzymes until the 1990s but are now known to be the dominant peroxidases in most organisms. Here, the history and fundamental properties of peroxiredoxins are briefly reviewed, with a special focus on describing how an exquisitely tunable balance between fully folded and locally unfolded conformations ...

Spatial Cell Death and Oxidative Stress Dynamics in Gas Plasma‐Treated Tumor Tissues

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the four experimental models to study tissue penetration and oxidation. Four tissue models were used. Human pancreatic cancer cells were grown on the chorioallantois membrane of chicken embryos and gas plasma‐treated in ovo, murine colorectal tumor tissue was gas plasma‐exposed ex vivo, murine squamous cell carcinoma cells ...

Spectroscopic and In Silico Determination of the Structural and Antioxidant Properties of Essential Oils From Lavandula Species Cultivated in the Silivri Region of Istanbul

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plants are important sources of bioactive compounds that contribute to nutrition, health maintenance, and disease prevention. In this study, the chemical composition and antioxidant potential of essential oils obtained from Lavandula angustifolia “Sevtopolis” and Lavandula × intermedia cultivated in the Silivri region of Istanbul were ...

Mitochondrial peroxiredoxin 3 is more resilient to hyperoxidation than cytoplasmic peroxiredoxins [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 2009
The Prxs (peroxiredoxins) are a family of cysteine-dependent peroxidases that decompose hydrogen peroxide. Prxs become hyperoxidized when a sulfenic acid formed during the catalytic cycle reacts with hydrogen peroxide. In the present study, Western blot methodology was developed to quantify hyperoxidation of individual 2-Cys Prxs in cells.

Peroxiredoxin 6 as a Unique Member of the Peroxiredoxin Family [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The peroxiredoxin family was discovered approximately 30 years ago and is now recognized as one of the most important families of enzymes related to antioxidant defense and cellular signaling. Peroxiredoxin 6 shares the basic enzymatic functions that characterize this family, but also exhibits several unique and crucial activities.

Localized redox relays as a privileged mode of cytoplasmic hydrogen peroxide signaling

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2017
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a key signaling agent. Its best characterized signaling actions in mammalian cells involve the early oxidation of thiols in cytoplasmic phosphatases, kinases and transcription factors.

Comprehensive Characterization of Acer truncatum Leaf Extract: Identification of Systemic Metabolites and Effects on Performance, Antioxidant Status, and Intestinal Microbiota in Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary A. truncatum leaf extract is absorbed and improves laying performance in aged hens by enhancing systemic antioxidant capacity and modulating the gut microbiota. ABSTRACT The demand for natural feed additives is considerably increasing in the antibiotic‐free feed era.

The antioxidant system of the respiratory tract. The intracellular antioxidant protection in the respiratory tract (part 6)

open access: yesZdorovʹe Rebenka, 2017
The literature review presents the current data about peroxiredoxin system in the functioning of the intracellular antioxidant protection in the respiratory tract. We present a model of the molecular structure of certain peroxiredoxins. The peroxiredoxin-
