Class I Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) Synthase Increased Polylactic Acid Production in Engineered Escherichia Coli [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
Polylactic acid (PLA), a homopolymer of lactic acid (LA), is a bio-derived, biocompatible, and biodegradable polyester. The evolved class II PHA synthase (PhaC1Ps6-19) was commonly utilized in the de novo biosynthesis of PLA from biomass.

Separation of polyhydroxyalkanoates-producing bacterial strains using PHA synthase gene and their evaluation for PHA deposition

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2013
In this study, a variety of samples were screened for the presence of PHA synthase gene. Results showed that 16 out of 102 isolated were positive for PHA respective genes. The highest prevalence was observed in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Using runaway replication to express polyhydroxyalkanoic acid (pha) genes from a novel marine bacterium in enteric bacteria: The influence of temperature and phasins on PHA accumulation.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
While plastics have revolutionized our world, plastic waste has serious environmental and economic impacts. Polyhydroxyalkanoic acid (PHA) is a bacterial carbon and energy reserve shown to be both biodegradable and biocompatible and could potentially ...

Production of copolyesters of 3-hydroxybutyrate and medium-chain-length 3-hydroxyalkanoates by E. coli containing an optimized PHA synthase gene

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2012
Background Microbial polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are biopolyesters consisting of diverse monomers. PHA synthase PhaC2Ps cloned from Pseudomonas stutzeri 1317 is able to polymerize short-chain-length (scl) 3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB) monomers and medium-chain-

PHA synthase variant design using a conditional variational autoencoder. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology
Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) synthases are a group of complex, dimeric enzymes which catalyze polymerization of R-hydroxyacids into PHAs. PHA properties depend on their monomer composition but enzymes found in nature have limited specificities to certain R-

Advanced Strategies for Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) Production: PHA Synthase Homologous Overexpression in the Extremophile Haloferax mediterranei [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Drugs
Bioplastics such as poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) are promising alternatives to conventional plastics. However, the high production cost limits their industrial application.

Polyhydroyxalkanoate Synthase Fusions as a Strategy for Oriented Enzyme Immobilisation

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) is a carbon storage polymer produced by certain bacteria in unbalanced nutrient conditions. The PHA forms spherical inclusions surrounded by granule associate proteins including the PHA synthase (PhaC).

Purification and Characterization of Polyhydroxyalkanoate Synthase from Extremely Halophilic Archaeon Haloferax mediterranei: Key Enzyme of Biodegradable Plastic Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesBioengineering
The biosynthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biopolymer is highly dependent on the activity of a key enzyme, PHA synthase (PhaC). The halophilic archaeon Haloferax mediterranei can accumulate large amounts of PHAs from different carbon sources under ...
