Desenvolvimento e avaliação de um secador solar para grãos, associado a silo subterrâneo Development and evaluation of a solar drier for grains associated to underground bin

Evaluating astigmatid mites as supplemental food for Macrolophus pygmaeus: contrasting responses between commercial and wild populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Astigmatid mites provide low‐cost supplemental food for Macrolophus pygmaeus, supporting survival and development, with population‐specific responses and Acarus siro and Carpoglyphus lactis as the most promising alternatives. Abstract BACKGROUND Early establishment of Macrolophus pygmaeus in crops depends on the availability of supplemental food ...

Evaluating predatory arthropods for the biological control of the invasive Thrips parvispinus (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in greenhouse sweet pepper

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that Orius laevigatus, alone or with other predators, consistently achieved the highest suppression of Thrips parvispinus and improved plant productivity. Franklinothrips vespiformis coexisted with O. laevigatus, suggesting compatibility, while Amblyseius swirskii declined, indicating incompatibility. Individually, F. vespiformis and A.

Dietary restriction induces persistent multigenerational phenotypic effects in Phytoseiulus persimilis

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The study shows ancestral dietary restriction in Phytoseiulus persimilis produces persistent, sex‐specific, multi‐generational effects on survival and body size, with stronger maternal than paternal lineage influences despite nutritional recovery. Abstract BACKGROUND Transgenerational phenotypic plasticity (TGP) allows environmental effects to persist ...

Effect of adenine sulphate in the regeneration and elongation of common bean shoots

open access: yesBiotecnología Vegetal, 2012
Plant regeneration and its further development of these are critical steps in tissue culture of Phaseolus vulgaris. The paper shows the effect of adenine sulfate included in the culture media on regeneration and elongation of shoots in the cultivar `CIAP

Predator egg‐induced non‐consumptive effects suppress spider mite survival and reproductive performance

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Increasing predation intensity of predatory mite significantly reduced spider mite fitness in terms of shorter mother longevity, lower mother fecundity, longer offspring development, lower offspring survival, and lower population growth. Abstract BACKGROUND Predators suppress pest populations not only through direct consumption but also via non ...

The characterization of a new set of EST-derived simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers as a resource for the genetic analysis of Phaseolus vulgaris

open access: yesBMC Genetics, 2011
Background Over recent years, a growing effort has been made to develop microsatellite markers for the genomic analysis of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) to broaden the knowledge of the molecular genetic basis of this species.

Sphingolipids in bean leaves (Phaseolus vulgaris)

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1969
Phytoglycolipid has been isolated for the first time from plant leaves (Phaseolus vulgaris). The purified product (almost identical with the phytoglycolipid isolated from flax seed) was a ceramide attached through phosphate diester linkage to an oligosaccharide, which consisted of the usual trisaccharide unit (inositol, hexuronic acid, hexosamine) to ...

Benzimidazole Anthelmintic Compounds Albendazole and Fenbendazole Show Distinct Toxicity on the Nitrogen Fixing Bacterium Mesorhizobium loti and Its Symbiosis With Lotus japonicus

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Veterinary medicines, which reach the soil mostly through the application of contaminated manures, can affect beneficial soil microorganisms, such as nitrogen‐fixing rhizobia bacteria, which engage in important symbiotic associations with plants.
