Aberrant expression of nuclear prothymosin α contributes to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

A combined photolytic–electrolytic system for the simultaneous recovery of copper and degradation of phenol or 4-chlorophenol in mixed solutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The effects of the presence of copper on the photooxidation of phenol and 4-chlorophenol and of the presence of the phenols on the recovery of copper by electrodeposition are studied in three systems: a photolytic cell in the presence and absence of TiO2

Cholesterol mediates the effects of single and multiple environmental phenols in urine on obesity

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease
Background Overweight and obesity are among the leading chronic diseases worldwide. Environmental phenols have been renowned as endocrine disruptors that contribute to weight changes; however, the effects of exposure to mixed phenols on obesity are not ...

Studies on aerial parts of Artemisia pallens wall for phenol, flavonoid and evaluation of antioxidant activity

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences, 2011
Herbs have been used for medicinal purposes for centuries. According to recent investigations, they may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases, cardiovascular disease, and cancer due to antioxidant properties, which in turn can be attributed to the ...

C-H functionalization of phenols using combined ruthenium and photoredox catalysis: in situ generation of the oxidant.

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2015
A combination of ruthenium and photoredox catalysis allowed the ortho olefination of phenols. Using visible light, the direct C-H functionalization of o-(2-pyridyl)phenols occurred, and diverse phenol ethers were obtained in good yields. The regeneration

Phenol in Herpes [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1910
To the Editor:— For the past four years I have treated herpes with an application of a 95 per cent, solution of phenol. As soon as the skin begins to turn white I neutralize the phenol effect with alcohol. In many cases one application suffices; in no case is it necessary to make more than three applications.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Redox and Spectroscopic Properties of Iron Porphyrin Nitroxyl in the Presence of Weak Acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The spectroelectrochemistry and voltammetry of Fe(OEP) (NO) in the presence of substituted phenols was studied. Cyclic voltammetry showed that two closely spaced waves were observed for the reduction of Fe(OEP) (NO) in the presence of substituted phenols.

Factorial design in isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography of phenolic compounds [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2002
A multifactor optimization strategy was utilized to predict the isocratic HPLC separation of nine phenols. The retention behavior was studied as a function of changing eluent (methanol – acetic acid) composition.
