Variable effects of exposure to formulated microbicides on antibiotic susceptibility in firmicutes and proteobacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Microbicides are broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents that generally interact with multiple pharmacological targets. While they are widely deployed in disinfectant, antiseptic, and preservative formulations, data relating to their potential to select for ...

Safety of intrastromal injection of polyhexamethylene biguanide and propamidine isethionate in a rabbit model

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research, 2020
Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) is difficult to treat, especially when the corneal deep stroma is involved. Intrastromal injection of antimicrobial agents is an effective adjuvant therapy for deep recalcitrant microbial keratitis; however, it has not been ...

Die Aufnahme von PHMB in epicitehydro(R)

open access: yes, 2019

Effects of formulation on microbicide potency and mitigation of the development of bacterial insusceptibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Risk assessments of the potential for microbicides to select for reduced bacterial susceptibility have been based largely on data generated through the exposure of bacteria to microbicides in aqueous solution.

Medical Fabrics with Non‐Antibiotic, Supramolecular Antimicrobial Coatings: A Preventive Approach to Combat Biofilm Formation and Bacterial Dissemination

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an antibiotic‐free strategy using medical fabrics coated with supramolecular assemblies of polyarginine and hyaluronic acid. These coatings showed strong antimicrobial and anti‐biofilm activity in vitro and in vivo, achieving major bacterial load reductions, including against MRSA.

Loss of Function in Escherichia coli exposed to Environmentally Relevant Concentrations of Benzalkonium Chloride [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Assessing the risk of resistance associated with biocide exposure commonly involves exposing microorganisms to biocides at concentrations close to the MIC. With the aim of representing exposure to environmental biocide residues, MG1655 was grown for 20

Oxygen and ROS Delivery for Infected Wound Healing and Future Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Bacterial infection is a major driver of delayed wound healing and postsurgical readmissions; with rising antibiotic resistance, solid peroxide–releasing biomaterials offer sustained delivery of ROS/O2 for antimicrobial control and microenvironmental modulation.
