Identification of 48 homologues of phosphatidylethanol in blood by LC-ESI-MS/MS [PDF]
Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is an abnormal phospholipid carrying two fatty acid chains. It is only formed in the presence of ethanol via the action of phospholipase D (PLD).

Evaluating the Impact of Phosphatidylethanol Testing on Hospital Outcomes
Alcohol dependence remains a significant global health issue, exacerbated by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Phosphatidylethanol (PEth), a direct biomarker of recent alcohol consumption, offers improved specificity, sensitivity, and a longer detection window of 2 - 4 weeks compared to traditional biomarkers.

Alcohol relapse after liver transplantation is difficult to predict using abstinence duration alone. We developed a multifactor model integrating abstinence duration, psychosocial risk (SIPAT), and socioeconomic context (AUC 0.70). This approach may support individualized risk assessment and tailored follow‐up intensity; external validation is needed ...

Alcohol consumption was independently associated with Surgical Site Infection in the gastroenterological Minimally Invasive Surgery. Whether preoperative abstinence from alcohol prevents the occurrence of SSI warrants further investigation. ABSTRACT Background Surgical site infection (SSI) is one of the postoperative complications. Risk factors for SSI

Background & Aims: Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is an alcohol-use biomarker that could bridge the detection windows of urinary ethyl glucuronide (uEtG) and scalp hair ethyl glucuronide (hEtG), but has been rarely validated in patients with liver ...

Phosphatidylethanol in Postmortem Brain and Serum Ethanol at Time of Death [PDF]
BackgroundPhosphatidylethanol (PEth) is a metabolite of ethanol (EtOH), and its concentration in whole blood samples is a direct biomarker of alcohol consumption. Because PEth is also present in the brain and incorporated in lipid membranes, it can be used to classify deceased individuals on alcohol consumption status at the time of death.

ABSTRACT Drug‐induced liver injury (DILI) is a leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States and remains difficult to predict and diagnose. Trimethoprim‐sulfamethoxazole (TMP‐SMX) is widely prescribed and generally well tolerated, yet rare cases of severe idiosyncratic hepatotoxicity have been reported.
