The new psychoactive substances 5-(2-aminopropyl)indole (5-IT) and 6-(2-aminopropyl)indole (6-IT) interact with monoamine transporters in brain tissue [PDF]

open access: yes
In recent years, use of psychoactive synthetic stimulants has grown rapidly. 5-(2-Aminopropyl)indole (5-IT) is a synthetic drug associated with a number of fatalities, that appears to be one of the newest 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA ...

The R203W substitution drives PACS‐1 syndrome by disrupting intramolecular regulation

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The middle region (MR) of PACS‐1 controls engagement with specific partner proteins. This manuscript presents the structure of the Furin binding region (FBR) and how interactions with partners are regulated through the interplay between a basic patch in the FBR and an acidic cluster in the MR.

AlkaPlorer: A database‐driven explorer for natural alkaloids and derivatives

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The alkaloid database AlkaPlorer integrates over 130,000 compounds across 12,250 species. By linking chemical structures with biological and evolutionary data, it reveals how these molecules evolve and function. This platform serves as a vital resource for AI‐driven discovery in plant metabolism and modern drug development. ABSTRACT Alkaloids, renowned

Probing skin photoallergens in reconstructed human epidermis: An EPR spin trapping investigation

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, Volume 101, Issue 2, Page 275-281, March/April 2025.
We present an original proof‐of‐concept methodology to probe radical generation from allergens in contact with photoexposed skin, using electron paramagnetic resonance and spin trapping in a reconstructed human epidermis model mimicking real‐life exposure scenarios.

Advances in organic UV filters for sunscreens over the past decade

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Highlighted organic UV filter frameworks that have been described for sunscreens over the past decade divided into three groups: derivatives of or inspired by approved organic UV filters, natural product‐based compounds, and miscellaneous. Abstract Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a major environmental factor in photoaging, erythema, and skin cancer ...

Direct Mechanoorganocatalysis via Surface Functionalization of Milling Reactors With Amine Functions

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 5, May 2026.
Surface functionalization of milling jars in epoxy resin furnished reactive milling jars, able to perform direct mechanoorganocatalysis with high efficiency, recyclability, and simplified purification. This proof of concept was applied successfully to base‐catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation and multicomponent reactions.

Triple Matrix Confinement‐Induced Ultrabright Afterglow From Carbon Dots With Multivariate Responsive Afterglow Colors for Advanced Dynamic Information Encryption

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 16, 13 April 2026.
A novel carbon dots material (BUL‐CDs) with an initial afterglow brightness (406 cd m−2) far exceeding that of other afterglow luminescent materials was developed. Furthermore, the BUL‐CDs exhibited time‐dependent afterglow colors, excitation‐dependent afterglow colors, and thermochromic afterglow in response to triplet variables.

In Vivo Measurement of UVA Protection Factor (ISO 24442:2011) Across 38 Different SPF 50 and SPF 50+ Sunscreens Reveals High Heterogeneity and Limitations in the Level of Protection

open access: yesPhotodermatology, Photoimmunology &Photomedicine, Volume 42, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background/Purpose The UVB and UVA components of terrestrial solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) cause acute and chronic damage to skin. These adverse effects can be reduced by sunscreen application. The sun protection factor (SPF) is primarily a measure of UVB protection against erythema and does not quantify protection from UVA, which is the ...
