Planar Cell Polarity: Coordinating Morphogenetic Cell Behaviors with Embryonic Polarity [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopmental Cell, 2011
Planar cell polarization entails establishment of cellular asymmetries within the tissue plane. An evolutionarily conserved planar cell polarity (PCP) signaling system employs intra- and intercellular feedback interactions between its core components, including Frizzled, Van Gogh, Flamingo, Prickle, and Dishevelled, to establish their characteristic ...

DAnkrd49 and Bdbt act via Casein kinase Iε to regulate planar polarity in Drosophila.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2020
The core planar polarity proteins are essential mediators of tissue morphogenesis, controlling both the polarised production of cellular structures and polarised tissue movements.

Multilayer Self‐Limiting Electrospray Deposition via Stepped Voltage Bias

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐limiting electrospray deposition (SLED) uses a high voltage to generate and deposit a charged payload on a target surface. The coating retains its charge, repelling newly arriving material. SLED thickness can be decreased by applying a secondary bias to the target.

Wnt proteins can direct planar cell polarity in vertebrate ectoderm

open access: yeseLife, 2016
The coordinated orientation of cells across the tissue plane, known as planar cell polarity (PCP), is manifested by the segregation of core PCP proteins to different sides of the cell.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Planar Cell Polarity Signaling: The Developing Cell's Compass [PDF]

open access: yesCold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Biology, 2009
Cells of many tissues acquire cellular asymmetry to execute their physiologic functions. The planar cell polarity system, first characterized in Drosophila, is important for many of these events. Studies in Drosophila suggest that an upstream system breaks cellular symmetry by converting tissue gradients to subcellular asymmetry, whereas a downstream ...

Reciprocal and dynamic polarization of planar cell polarity core components and myosin

open access: yeseLife, 2015
The Ciona notochord displays planar cell polarity (PCP), with anterior localization of Prickle (Pk) and Strabismus (Stbm). We report that a myosin is polarized anteriorly in these cells and strongly colocalizes with Stbm.

Neuropathological hallmarks of fetal hydrocephalus linked to CCDC88C pathogenic variants

open access: yesActa Neuropathologica Communications, 2021
The prevalence of congenital hydrocephalus has been estimated at 1.1 per 1000 infants when including cases diagnosed before 1 year of age after exclusion of neural tube defects. Classification criteria are based either on CSF dynamics, pathophysiological

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Tissue shear as a cue for aligning planar polarity in the developing Drosophila wing

open access: yesNature Communications
Planar polarity establishment in epithelia requires interpretation of directional tissue-level information at cellular and molecular levels. Mechanical forces exerted during tissue morphogenesis are emerging as crucial tissue-level directional cues, yet ...
