A Plaque Reduction Neutralization Test for Human Cytomegalovirus.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1964
SummaryA plaque technique for human cytomegaloviruses has been developed employing human embryonic lung fibroblast cultures and an overlay containing 2% methyl cellulose. Neutralization tests employing the 80% plaque reduction endpoint were found to give reproducible results. Human adult sera exhibited titers of 1:8 to 1:64.

Simplified plaque reduction neutralization assay for dengue viruses by semimicro methods in BHK-21 cells: comparison of the BHK suspension test with standard plaque reduction neutralization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1985
A newly modified semimicro plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT) in BHK cells was compared with a standard PRNT in bottles with LLC-MK2 monolayers and with an LLC-MK2 PRNT adapted to semimicro methods. The BHK semimicro PRNT compared favorably in terms of sensitivity in detecting dengue antibody (96%), specificity at a screening dilution (95 ...

An Integrated Research–Clinical BSL-2 Platform for a Live SARS-CoV-2 Neutralization Assay

open access: yesViruses, 2023
A reliable and efficient serological test is crucial for monitoring neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants of concern (VOCs). Here, we present an integrated research–clinical platform for a live SARS-CoV-2 neutralization assay ...

Fluorescence Adherence Inhibition Assay: A Novel Functional Assessment of Blocking Virus Attachment by Vaccine-Induced Antibodies. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Neutralizing antibodies induced by vaccination or natural infection play a critically important role in protection against the viral diseases. In general, neutralization of the viral infection occurs via two major pathways: pre- and post-attachment modes,

Protective levels of canine distemper virus antibody in an urban dog population using plaque reduction neutralization test

open access: yesOnderstepoort Journal of Veterinary Research, 2004
Blood samples from 50 dogs were collected at three veterinary clinics in Ibadan and Abuja, Nigeria and the serum from each sample was evaluated serologically for neutralizing antibodies against canine distemper virus (CDV) by the highly sensitive ...

Serotypic classification of hantaviruses by indirect immunofluorescent antibody and plaque reduction neutralization tests [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1985
Antisera prepared against 16 strains of hantaviruses isolated from patients with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) or from rodents captured in HFRS-endemic and nonendemic regions were titrated against Hantaan virus strain 76-118, Puumala virus strain Sotkamo, and Prospect Hill virus strain Prospect Hill-I by using the indirect ...

Serological and Molecular Surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Captive Tigers (Panthera tigris), Thailand

open access: yesAnimals, 2022
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an emerging infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. Given the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants, continuous surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in animals is important.

Variation in dengue virus plaque reduction neutralization testing: systematic review and pooled analysis [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2012
AbstractBackgroundThe plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT) remains the gold standard for the detection of serologic immune responses to dengue virus (DENV). While the basic concept of the PRNT remains constant, this test has evolved in multiple laboratories, introducing variation in materials and methods.

Serologic Evidence of West Nile Virus Transmission, Jamaica, West Indies

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2003
In spring 2002, an intensive avian serosurvey was initiated in Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. We collected >1,600 specimens from resident and nonresident neotropical migratory birds before their northerly migrations.
