The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

The effective detoxification of blood plasma by foam bubbling

open access: yesСеченовский вестник, 2014
A blood plasma detoxitycation efficiency by a barbotage method (gas bubbling through a liquid medium) is investigated. It is established that the efficiency of removal of carbon tetrachloride out of the plasma and its mixtures with plasma substitutes is ...

The substitute ENSO 16 has low impact on glucose metabolism in healthy humans: a randomized, double-blind, active-controlled, cross-over trial

open access: yesScientific Reports
High sugar consumption is associated with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Current sugar substitutes may cause taste sensations and gastrointestinal symptoms.

In-Silico Characterization of von Willebrand Factor Bound to FVIII

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Factor VIII belongs to the coagulation cascade and is expressed as a long pre-protein (mature form, 2351 amino acids long). FVIII is deficient or defective in hemophilic A patients, who need to be treated with hemoderivatives or recombinant FVIII ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Design of a bioreactor to study the role of red blood cells in the transport of nitric oxide in the microcirculation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Nitric oxide (NO) plays an important role in physiological functions like vasodilation, neurotransmission, and inhibition of platelet aggregation. The endothelium-derived NO diffuses into the vascular lumen where it interacts with flowing blood as well ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

THE INFLUENCE OF MODERN PLASMA SUBSTITUTES ON THE COURSE OF ABDOMINAL COMPARTMENT SYNDROME IN PATIENTS WITH ABDOMINAL SEPSIS

open access: yesВестник хирургии имени И.И. Грекова, 2018
The changes of intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) were followed up in 244 patients with abdominal sepsis after operation. The influence of liquid «resuscitation» with different types of plasma substitutes on the rates of IAP was studied and the dependence of

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Multiband and impurity effects in infrared and optical spectra of MgB2

open access: yes, 2007
A short review of the optical and far-infrared measurements on MgB$_{2}$ is given. Multiband and multigap effects are analyzed by comparing optical properties with other experiments and {\em ab initio} calculations.
