Multiplexed Tandem Mass Spectrometry Imaging Enables Large‐Scale Isomer Mapping and Annotation in Tissues

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 20, 11 May 2026.
Parallel mass spectrometry imaging acquires high mass resolution and tandem mass spectrometry images from 108 isolation windows in a single run. Spatial similarity networking clusters product ions by spatial distribution, enabling annotation of isomers and isobars as demonstrated for phospholipids and oxidized cholesterol in mouse and human brain ...

Tumor lipids: Biosynthesis of plasmalogens

open access: yesBiochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1970
Labeled l-14C-l-3H-hexadecanol was incubated in vivo with Ehrlich ascites cells for 24 and 48 hours. The major distribution of radioactivity was found in the acyl, alkyl, and alk-l-enyl moieties of phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, and glyceryl ether diesters.

Fatty Acid Signatures as Nutritional Indices: Molecular Gateways to Health, Aging, and Functional Food Innovation

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Systems framework linking dietary fatty acids with the functional lipidome, health, and precision nutrition. Dietary fatty acids from plant‐based, marine, and animal sources undergo absorption, endogenous desaturation and elongation, oxidation, and tissue‐specific incorporation and remodeling, generating individualized FA signatures.

Quantitative micro determination and isolation of plasmalogen aldehydes as 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1966
A micro spectrophotometric procedure for the quantitative determination of plasmalogen aldehydes is described which utilizes simultaneous methanolysis and formation of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones.

Myocardial Lipid Metabolism Imbalance: The Pathological Core and Novel Diagnostic‐Therapeutic Directions of Cardiovascular Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 8, August 2026.
In cardiac cells, Plin5/AMPK regulate lipid homeostasis; excess CD36‐mediated uptake drives lipotoxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction, and CVDs (e.g., heart failure). Biomarkers (ApoB/ApoA‐1) and therapies (SGLT2 inhibitors) target this cascade. ABSTRACT Cardiac lipid metabolism is fundamental to myocardial energy homeostasis, with fatty acid oxidation ...

1-O-alkyl-glycerols from Squid Berryteuthis magister Reduce Inflammation and Modify Fatty Acid and Plasmalogen Metabolism in Asthma Associated with Obesity

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2023
Asthma associated with obesity is considered the most severe phenotype and can be challenging to manage with standard medications. Marine-derived 1-O-alkyl-glycerols (AGs), as precursors for plasmalogen synthesis, have high biological activity, making ...

Effect of Epigallocatechin Gallate Supplementation on Inflammation, Iron Status, and Metabolomic Profiles in Women With Obesity: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 16, 27 August 2026.
In this 8‐week double‐blind pilot RCT, 400 mg/day EGCG in women with obesity produced favorable trends in cholesterol and stable iron status without significant changes in inflammation or glucose. Exploratory metabolomics suggested modulation of lipid and mitochondrial pathways, supporting safety and warranting larger trials.

Beyond Genes: Metabolomic Evidence Indicates Potential Species‐Level Differentiation in European Wild Rabbits

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 345, Issue 6, Page 645-656, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) plays a key ecological role in Mediterranean ecosystems, yet its populations are declining. Two subspecies, O. c. algirus and O. c. cuniculus, are present in the Iberian Peninsula and exhibit genetic, phenotypic, and ecological differences.

Exploring Plasmalogen Supplementation in Alzheimer’s Models of Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yes
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an increasingly prevalent neurodegenerative disease as life expectancy increases. AD patients often have decreased levels of plasmalogens, a class of membrane lipids that are vital for proper neuronal function.

Human Milk Bioactive Compounds and Psychomotor Outcomes in Infants and Children: A Systematic Review

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 14, 29 July 2026.
In our review, we assess the role of HM fatty acids, oligosaccharides, proteins, and carotenoids, on psychomotor development in children up to 18 years. Findings suggest that HM BCs, particularly n‐3 PUFAs and fucosylated HMOs, might contribute to a favorable psychomotor development in infancy, preschool age, and school age.
