Urinary Sediment Podocalyxin in Children with Glomerular Diseases

Nephron Clinical Practice, 2004
Background: In an immunofluorescence study using antibody to podocalyxin, we reported that urinary excretion of podocytes reflected podocyte injury in glomeruli. However, this method has some problems, since it is basically urine cytology. To overcome problems with this test, we measured whole podocalyxin content in urine sediment by

Expression of podocalyxin enhances the adherence, migration, and intercellular communication of cells

open access: yesExperimental Cell Research, 2008
Podocalyxin (PODXL) is an anti-adhesive glycoprotein expressed abundantly in the epithelial cells of kidney glomeruli. In contrast, we report herein that expression of podocalyxin(GFP) (PODXL(GFP)) in CHO cells increased the adherence to immobilized fibronectin, spreading, and migration.

Erythropoietin Modulation of Podocalyxin within an Erythroblast Niche.

Blood, 2006
Abstract Epo’s capacity to promote red cell production is ascribed largely to anti-apoptotic effects on erythroid progenitor pools. Via gene profiling of bone marrow- derived erythroblasts, Epo is now revealed to down-modulate chemokine receptor-4 (Cxcr4) and integrin alpha-4 (Itga4), and to selectively up-modulate the expression of ...

The correlation of urinary podocytes and podocalyxin with histological features of lupus nephritis

Lupus, 2017
Objectives The objective of this study was to test the correlation of urinary podocyte number (U-Pod) and urinary podocalyxin levels (U-PCX) with histology of lupus nephritis. Methods This was an observational, cross-sectional study ...

The role of podocalyxin in adhesion and cell morphogenesis

2010
Podocalyxin is a sialomucin expressed on kidney podocytes, vascular endothelia, and hematopoietic progenitors. Although podocalyxin and its close relative, CD34 have been studied for many years, their precise functions have remained elusive, and roles in blocking differentiation, preventing cell adhesion, and establishing cell polarity have all been ...
