Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Three-Step Process for Efficient Solar Cells with Boron-Doped Passivated Contacts
Crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cells with passivation stacks consisting of a polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) layer and a thin interfacial silicon dioxide (SiO2) layer show high conversion efficiencies.

Lossy Kernels for Connected Dominating Set on Sparse Graphs [PDF]
For alpha > 1, an alpha-approximate (bi-)kernel for a problem Q is a polynomial-time algorithm that takes as input an instance (I, k) of Q and outputs an instance (I\u27,k\u27) (of a problem Q\u27) of size bounded by a function of k such that, for every ...

Poly I: C-activated dendritic cells that were generated in CellGro for use in cancer immunotherapy trials [PDF]
Abstract Background For clinical applications, dendritic cells (DCs) need to be generated using GMP-approved reagents. In this study, we tested the characteristics of DCs generated in two clinical grade culture media and activated by three maturation stimuli, Poly I: C, LPS and the mixture of proinflammatory cytokines

Genetic testing in epithelial ovarian cancer includes both germline and tumor‐testing. This approach often duplicates resources. The current prospective study assessed the feasibility of tumor‐first multigene testing by comparing tumor tissue with germline testing of peripheral blood using an 18‐gene NGS panel in 106 patients.

Spatial and temporal cellular responses to single-strand breaks in human cells [PDF]
DNA single-strand breaks (SSB) are one of the most frequent DNA lesions produced by reactive oxygen species and during DNA metabolism, but the analysis of cellular responses to SSB remains difficult due to the lack of an experimental method to produce ...

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Determining the effect of organic and low-input production methods on food quality and safety. QLIF subproject 2: Effects of production methods [PDF]
The objectives of QLIF subproject 2 were to: (i) identify the effect of production systems (organic, low-input and conventional) on food quality and safety parameters; (ii) identify agronomic parameters responsible for differences in food quality and ...
