Digestion, 2009
Currently, two major pathways are distinguished along which the polyamines are metabolized: the interconversion pathway and the so-called terminal polyamine catabolism. In vertebrates, the interconversion pathway is a cyclic process which controls polyamine turnover.

Amino Acids, 2004
Owing to the establishment of cells and transgenic animals which either lack or over-express acetylCoA:spermidine N(1)-acetyltransferase a major progress was made in our understanding of the role of polyamine acetylation. Cloning of polyamine oxidases of mammalian cell origin revealed the existence of several enzymes with different substrate and ...

Polyamine Cytochemistry: Localization and Possible Functions of Polyamines
1992Publisher Summary This chapter illustrates the development of three cytochemical methods for the detection of endogenous spermidine and spermine in situ along with possible physiological implications of their localizations. Spermidine and spermine are quantitatively and functionally most important polyamines in higher eukaryotes.

Polyamines and polyamine complexes: analytical comments.
Physiological chemistry and physics, 1981Different methods of sample preparation for determination of di- and polyamines (putrescine, spermidine, spermine) and their conjugates in serum, plasma, and urine are discussed. Higher polyamine values obtained after hydrolysis of serum or plasma acidic extracts suggest the presence of polyamine conjugates.
