Mycolicibacterium smegmatis possesses operational agmatinase but contains no detectable polyamines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mycobacteriology, 2020
Background: Polyamines are widespread intracellular molecules able to influence antibiotic susceptibility, but almost nothing is known on their occurrence and physiological role in mycobacteria.

Advances in Stimuli‐Responsive Organic Materials and Polymers toward Intelligent CO2 Capture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the relationship between different stimuli and stimuli‐responsive organic materials and polymers for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture. Main stimuli include redox, pH, magnetism, temperature, light, and pressure. Furthermore, multi‐responsive materials, due to their high adaptability and scalability in complex environments, are ...

Evidence that host size determines liver size: Studies in dogs receiving orthotopic liver transplants [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Orthotopic liver transplantation was performed in two groups of dogs; Group I animals consisted of large dogs that served as recipients of livers obtained from smaller dogs while Group II animals consisted of dogs that received liver from donor dogs of ...

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Genetically encoded fluorescent reporter for polyamines

open access: yesNature Communications
Polyamines are abundant and evolutionarily conserved metabolites that are essential for life. Dietary polyamine supplementation extends life-span and health-span. Dysregulation of polyamine homeostasis is linked to Parkinson’s disease and cancer, driving

Polyamines: total daily intake in adolescents compared to the intake estimated from the Swedish Nutrition Recommendations Objectified (SNO)

open access: yesFood & Nutrition Research, 2011
Background: Dietary polyamines have been shown to give a significant contribution to the body pool of polyamines. Knowing the levels of polyamines (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) in different foods and the contribution of daily food choice to ...
