Probing glycomics

Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, 2007
The study of protein-carbohydrate interactions is one central theme of glycomics research. The challenges encountered when investigating these interactions have resulted in an approach that studies saccharides through the enzymes that process them. Proteins and their function are often probed by manipulating the genes that encode them.

Probing recursion

Cognitive Processing, 2014
Abstract The experimental probing of recursion in human performance is fraught with non-trivial problems. Here, a number of case studies from the literature are analysed that contrast with the approach set out in chapter 5, and it is proposed that they give little information about the underlying mental processes at play within each of ...

Observing and probing

Proceedings of the 2003 international conference on Designing pleasurable products and interfaces, 2003
In this paper, we discuss and compare two user centred methods applied in concept design: observation and probes. The comparison is based on findings from two case studies. In these studies, user data was first inquired and then interpreted by a multidisciplinary design team, in order to support early user centered concept creation phase.

Mobile Probing and Probes

2012
Mobile probing is a method, which has been developed for learning about digital work situations, as an approach to discover new grounds. The method can be used when there is a need to know more about users and their work with certain tasks, but where users at the same time are distributed (in time and space). Mobile probing was inspired by the cultural

Gene probes

Current Opinion in Biotechnology, 1991
Gene probes are used in virtually all disciplines of the life sciences. Probes will probably have their greatest impact in health care when used as diagnostic tools to detect and identify micro-organisms responsible for infectious disease. This review will use development of gene probes for the clinical laboratory as a theme and review recent patents ...

Probing for Causes

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1979
Among the many memorable solecisms attributed to the late Samuel Goldwyn is his comment on a derogatory critique by a movie reviewer. "The critique," quipped Goldwyn, "isn't even worth to be ignored." This zany quip comes to mind on reading that "The medical man is trained to recognize only acute symptoms, just as he is trained to treat such symptoms ...
