Where Does mBERT Understand Code-Mixing? Layer-Dependent Performance on Semantic Tasks
Semantic tasks like lexical relation prediction and word analogy are crucial for deep language understanding, yet pose significant challenges when applied to code-mixed text, where multiple languages are interwoven. This study investigates the ability of

Probing Biomedical Embeddings from Language Models [PDF]
Contextualized word embeddings derived from pre-trained language models (LMs) show significant improvements on downstream NLP tasks. Pre-training on domain-specific corpora, such as biomedical articles, further improves their performance.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

On the Duality of Probing and Fault Attacks [PDF]
In this work we investigate the problem of simultaneous privacy and integrity protection in cryptographic circuits. We consider a white-box scenario with a powerful, yet limited attacker.

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

Probing topological phases in waveguide superlattices
One-dimensional superlattices with modulated coupling constants show rich topological properties and tunable edge states. Beyond the dimeric case, probing the topological properties of superlattices is a challenge. Here we suggest a rather general method

Probing Non-Integer Dimensions [PDF]
We show that two-dimensional convection-diffusion problems with a radial sink or source at the origin may be recast as a pure diffusion problem in a fictitious space in which the spatial dimension is continuously-tunable with the Peclet number.
