Memantine, Simvastatin, and Epicatechin Inhibit 7-Ketocholesterol-induced Apoptosis in Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells But Not Neurosensory Retinal Cells In Vitro [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmic & Vision Research, 2020
Purpose: 7-ketocholesterol (7kCh), a natural byproduct of oxidation in lipoprotein deposits is implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Effect of bevacizumab (Avastin TM ) on mitochondrial function of in vitro retinal pigment epithelial, neurosensory retinal and microvascular endothelial cells

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2013
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of bevacizumab on the mitochondrial function of human retinal pigment epithelial (ARPE-19), rat neurosensory retinal (R28) and human microvascular endothelial (HMVEC) cells in culture.

Toxicity of Triamcinolone Acetonide on Retinal Neurosensory and Pigment Epithelial Cells

open access: yesInvestigative Opthalmology & Visual Science, 2006
To study the toxicity of triamcinolone acetonide (Kenalog; Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Princeton, NJ) on retinal pigment epithelial (ARPE-19) and retinal neurosensory (R28) cells.ARPE-19 and R28 were grown in tissue culture in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM) containing 10% fetal bovine serum.

Trypan Blue: Effect on Retinal Pigment Epithelial and Neurosensory Retinal Cells

open access: yesInvestigative Opthalmology & Visual Science, 2005
To evaluate the toxicity of trypan blue on retinal cells in vitro.Human retinal pigment epithelial cells (ARPE-19) and rat neurosensory retinal cells (R28) were grown in tissue culture and treated with four different concentrations of trypan blue (0.1%, 0.05%, 0.025%, and 0.0125%), in combination with surgical light exposure (0, 5, or 10 minutes). On the Wrong Track: Alterations of Ciliary Transport in Inherited Retinal Dystrophies

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
Ciliopathies are a group of heterogeneous inherited disorders associated with dysfunction of the cilium, a ubiquitous microtubule-based organelle involved in a broad range of cellular functions. Most ciliopathies are syndromic, since several organs whose

Differential distribution of steroid hormone signaling networks in the human choroid-retinal pigment epithelial complex

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2022
Background The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), a layer of pigmented cells that lies between the neurosensory retina and the underlying choroid, plays a critical role in maintaining the functional integrity of photoreceptor cells and in mediating ...

Vision and retina evolution: How to develop a retina

open access: yesIBRO Neuroscience Reports, 2022
Early in vertebrate evolution, a single homeobox (Hox) cluster in basal chordates was quadrupled to generate the Hox gene clusters present in extant vertebrates.

TULP4, a novel E3 ligase gene, participates in neuronal migration as a candidate in schizophrenia

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, EarlyView., 2023
Mutations identified from four SCZ pedigrees resulted in decreased TULP4 expression. Tulp4 knockdown caused delayed neuron migration in embryonic mice, and impaired cognition and prepulse inhibition in adult mice. These phenotypes may be related to TULP4 through its involvement in the formation of a novel E3 ubiquitin ligases.

Resolution of Combined Hamartoma of Retina And Retinal Pigment Epithelium (CHRRPE) with Following Pars Plana Vitrectomy

open access: yesDelhi Journal of Ophthalmology, 2021
Combined hamartoma of retina and retinal pigment epithelium (CHRRPE) is a benign tumor located at the posterior pole. The pathogenesis of the lesion is unknown however some authors propose that the tumor may arise from undifferentiated ectopic progenitor
