S100A9 promotes pulmonary arterial hypertension by regulating mitochondria–endoplasmic reticulum interaction‐mediated inflammatory injury of endothelial cells

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Macrophage‐derived S100 calcium‐binding protein A9 (S100A9) promotes the pathological progression of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). S100A9 upregulates the interaction between signal‐transducing adaptor protein 2 and leucine‐rich repeat kinase 2, thereby regulating mitochondria–endoplasmic reticulum (ER) contact.

The future of prostacyclin

open access: yes, 2015
The discovery of prostaglandin in 1976 revolutionized the treatment of a rare cardiovascular condition called pulmonary arterial hypertension. However, current treatments are plagued by many unwanted side effects, and so its full therapeutic potential ...

Functional Prostacyclin Synthase Promoter Polymorphisms. Impact in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
RationalePulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disease characterized by elevated pulmonary artery pressure, vascular remodeling, and ultimately right ventricular heart failure. PAH can have a genetic component (heritable PAH), most often

Health-related quality of life burden in scleroderma patients treated with two different intravenous iloprost regimens

open access: yesReumatismo, 2019
Systemic sclerosis (SSc)-related Raynaud’s phenomenon (RP) and digital ulcers (DU) can impair health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim of our study was to estimate HRQoL in SSc patients treated with two different intravenous (IV) iloprost (ILO ...

Proteomics of Nitrotyrosine: Integrating Mass Spectrometry and Immunodetection in Redox‐Driven Pathology

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nitrooxidative stress, driven by excess reactive nitrogen species like peroxynitrite, contributes to the pathogenesis of many chronic diseases. Among its molecular footprints, 3‐nitrotyrosine (3NT) has emerged as a biologically relevant marker of protein nitration.

Current status and future perspectives of platelet function‐guided precision antiplatelet therapy for patients with cerebral infarction

open access: yesNeuroprotection, EarlyView.
Antiplatelet agents target the cyclooxygenase‐1 (COX‐1)/thromboxane A2 (TXA2) and adenosine diphosphate (ADP)‐P2Y12 (cytochrome P450 2C19 [CYP2C19]‐metabolized) platelet activation pathways, resulting in either drug resistance or over‐inhibition. The individualized therapeutic window balances ischemic risk (triggered by high on‐treatment platelet ...

Treatment of ischaemic stroke with prostacyclin.

open access: yes, 1983
Ten patients with ischaemic stroke were treated with prostacyclin (2.5-5.0 ng/kg/min i.v. in 6 h courses 4-10 times during 1-2.5 days). In all patients a dramatic regression of hemiplegia, or hemiparesis, or aphasia occurred in the first few hours of ...

Effects of a single bout of strenuous exercise on platelet activation in female ApoE/LDLR−/− mice

open access: yesPlatelets, 2017
Strenuous physical exercise leads to platelet activation that is normally counterbalanced by the production of endothelium-derived anti-platelet mediators, including prostacyclin (PGI2) and nitric oxide (NO).
