European Urology, 1995
The results of 225 systematic prostate biopsies from 1992 to 1993 were evaluated retrospectively. The parameters prostate-specific antigen (PSA) density and age-specific PSA values were compared with digital rectal examination, transrectal ultrasound, and PSA as single parameters and possible combinations.

Prostate-specific antigen in management of prostatic carcinoma
Urology, 1989In 1979, Wang and associates isolated prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Only recently, however, has the clinical importance of this new tumor marker been recognized. It is now widely accepted that PSA represents a significantly more effective tumor marker than prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP).

Screening for Prostatic Carcinoma with Prostate Specific Antigen
Journal of Urology, 1992Prostate specific antigen (PSA), neutral serine protease secreted exclusively by prostatic epithelial cells, has a number of applications in the management of men with prostatic carcinoma. While it is widely recognized that elevated PSA correlates with the presence of carcinoma, little data exist regarding the use of PSA as the initial test in the ...

Prostate-specific antigen as a marker of prostate disease
Virchows Archiv, 2000Serum prostate markers, in particular prostate-specific antigen (PSA), have truly revolutionised all aspects of the management of men with prostatic carcinoma (PCa), the most important application being related to its early detection and screening. Several studies have shown the clinical utility of PSA levels for staging patients with PCa, especially ...

Prostate cancer in the era of prostate-specific antigen
Current Opinion in Oncology, 1995The number of cases of prostate cancer diagnosed increased by 15% in the past year. This trend is likely to continue as prostate-specific antigen testing was approved for screening during the past year. The result is that mroe patients are being diagnosed at an earlier and presumably curable stage, although the long-term impact on survival has not been
