Interaction of Oligonucleotides with Gold Nanoparticles: Factors Beyond Electrostatic and Van‐Der Waals Forces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The formation of stable clusters of gold nanoparticles with oligonucleotides at different solution conditions is explored. DNA base homogeneity and strand directionality influence the binding with gold nanoparticles leading to interesting clustering behavior that can be relevant for SERS applications.

Molecular origin of constant m-values, denatured state collapse, and residue-dependent transition midpoints in globular proteins [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
Experiments show that for many two state folders the free energy of the native state DG_ND([C]) changes linearly as the denaturant concentration [C] is varied. The slope, m = d DG_ND([C])/d[C], is nearly constant. The m-value is associated with the difference in the surface area between the native (N) and the denatured (D) state, which should be a ...

Adjusting Cell‐Surface Interactions Through a Covalent Immobilization of Biomolecules

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This review presents an overview of current and emerging immobilization techniques coupled with an in‐depth investigation of the underlying mechanisms governing the activity and stability of covalently immobilized biomolecules. The aim of this study is to serve as a guide for the development of long‐lasting biomedical coatings with versatile biological

Domain rearrangement and denaturation in Ebola virus protein VP40

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
The VP40 protein plays a critical role in coordinating the virion assembly, budding, and replication of the Ebola virus. Efforts have been made in recent years to understand various aspects of VP40 structure, dynamics, and function such as assembly of ...

Salt-specific stability and denaturation of a short salt-bridge forming alpha-helix [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
The structure of a single alanine-based Ace-AEAAAKEAAAKA-Nme peptide in explicit aqueous electrolyte solutions (NaCl, KCl, NaI, and KF) at large salt concentrations (3-4 M) is investigated using 1 microsecond molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulations.

Toward Personalized Stationary Chromatography Phases: Equipping Commercial Silica Phases with Selected Peptide‐Based Binding Domains to Tailor Affinity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The 7‐mer peptide motifs QFFLFFQ, QFFEFFQ, and QFQQSFF, known as good, medium, and poor binders for the photosensitizers m‐THPC and Chlorin E6 are covalently immobilized on commercial amino‐functionalized silica particles by inverse electron‐demand Diels‐Alder ligation.

Polymer Principles of Protein Calorimetric Two-State Cooperativity [PDF]

open access: yesProteins: Struc. Func. & Gen., 40 (2000) 637, 2000
The experimental calorimetric two-state criterion requires the van't Hoff enthalpy $\Delta H_{\rm vH}$ around the folding/unfolding transition midpoint to be equal or very close to the calorimetric enthalpy $\Delta H_{\rm cal}$ of the entire transition.
