Proteoglycans and catabolic products of proteoglycans present in ligament [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 2005
The aim of the present study was to characterize the proteoglycans and catabolic products of proteoglycans present in the tensile region of ligament and explant cultures of this tissue, and to compare these with those observed in the tensile region of tendon. Approx.

A brief elevation of serum amyloid A is sufficient to increase atherosclerosis[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2015
Serum amyloid A (SAA) has a number of proatherogenic effects including induction of vascular proteoglycans. Chronically elevated SAA was recently shown to increase atherosclerosis in mice.

Cytokines and proteoglycans [PDF]

open access: yesExperientia, 1993
Cytokines play an important regulatory role in the metabolism of proteoglycans. Proteoglycans are found in plasma membranes, but predominantly in the extra-cellular matrix. In the latter they are quantitatively and qualitatively essential components. Especially in a tissue like cartilage without any blood vessels, the cells are dependent on cytokines ...

Retinal Proteoglycans Act as Cellular Receptors for Basement Membrane Assembly to Control Astrocyte Migration and Angiogenesis

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
The basement membrane is crucial for cell polarity, adhesion, and motility, but how it is assembled on the cell surface remains unclear. Here, we find that ablation of glycosaminoglycan (GAG) side chains of proteoglycans in the neuroretina disrupts the ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.
