Effective synthesis of 3‐substituted isoindolinones is possible through novel cascade reactions of alkyl arylacetates with 2‐cyanobenzaldehydes under mild, basic conditions. Herein we report the use of alkyl arylacetates as pro‐nucleophiles in cascade reactions with 2‐cyanobenzaldehydes leading to the formation of novel 3‐substituted isoindolinones, a ...

Structure determination of a 4-pyrone from the liverwort Plagiochila bifaria (Sw.) Lindenb. (Plagiochilaceae) [PDF]
The centenary of the presentation in 1907 of the "polyketide" hypothesis by Collie, along with his use of a 4-pyrone as an example, is marked by reporting the discovery and isolation of 2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenethyl)-6-methyl-4-pyrone from <i> ...

Natural products containing the α-pyrone moiety are produced by polyketide synthases (PKSs) in bacteria, fungi, and plants. The conserved biosynthetic logic for the production of the α-pyrone moiety involves the cyclization of a triketide intermediate ...

FT-IR Analysis of Pyrone and Chromene Structures in Activated Carbon [PDF]
[EN] The behavior of activated carbon in many catalysis processes is determined by the basic character of its surface. Using FT-IR spectroscopy, an attempt is made here to identify not only pyrone and chromene type structures but also their isomers in ...

Isolation of Smenopyrone, a Bis-γ-Pyrone Polypropionate from the Caribbean Sponge Smenospongia aurea
The organic extract of the Caribbean sponge Smenospongia aurea has been shown to contain an array of novel chlorinated secondary metabolites derived from a mixed PKS-NRPS biogenetic route such as the smenamides. In this paper, we report the presence of a

An Epicoccum fungus was isolated from gut of larvae of the butterfly Dione juno juno that feeds intensively on leaves of Passifloras. This fungus produces hydroxyanthraquinones that moderately inhibits growth of some Bacillus that coexist with the fungus in the insect gut, suggesting that it is probably important for microbial embalance in gut flora ...

Towards the total synthesis of Phacelocarpus-2-pyrone A: Novel 2-pyrone chemistry [PDF]
This thesis describes the progress made towards the synthesis of the natural product phacelocarpus-2-pyrone A and the development of novel synthetic methodology for the synthesis of functionalised 2-pyrones.

Total Synthesis and Stereochemical Revision of Phacelocarpus 2‐Pyrone A
The first total synthesis of phacelocarpus 2-pyrone A is reported. The original natural compound was tentatively assigned (by NMR spectroscopy) as containing two cis-alkenes and a trans-vinyl ether connected to a 2-pyrone ring motif.

Anti-leukemic effect of 2-pyrone derivatives via MAPK and PI3 kinase pathways
Substituted 2-pyrones are important structural sub-units present in a number of natural products having broad range of biological activity. However, little is known about the anti-cancer effect of 2-pyrone derivatives including leukemia.
