Saccharomonopyrones A–C, New α-Pyrones from a Marine Sediment-Derived Bacterium Saccharomonospora sp. CNQ-490

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2017
Intensive study of the organic extract of the marine-derived bacterium Saccharomonospora sp. CNQ-490 has yielded three new α-pyrones, saccharomonopyrones A–C (1–3).

Cyclization of 4‑Phenoxy-2-coumarins and 2‑Pyrones via a Double C–H Activation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Aryl–heteroaryl coupling via double C–H activation is a powerful transformation that avoids the installation of activating groups. A double C–H activation of privileged biological scaffolds, 2-coumarins and 2-pyrones, is reported.

A 3-Vinyl Cephem Derivative, a Useful Intermediate in the Synthesis of Cepham Antibiotics, from Associated with Banana Fruit

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2015
Aspergillus awamori was isolated from a diseased banana fruit, Musa acuminata cv. Ambul. The fungus was fermented in potato dextrose broth and on potato dextrose agar media and the fungal media were extracted with EtOAc. Chromatographic separation of the

Pyrone Biomonitored Synthesis

open access: yesJournal of the Mexican Chemical Society
Abstract. Here we report the first biomonitored synthesis of pyrones in the search for molecules with antimicrobial action against pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Pyrones were synthesized from methyl acetoacetate pyrone rings followed by deacetylation, methylation, and aldol condensation reactions to obtain styrylpyrones with yields between 39 and 93 %.
