Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Cost-Effective Radiation Hardening Technique for Combinational Logic [PDF]
— A radiation hardening technique for combinational logic circuits is described. The key idea is to exploit the asymmetric logical masking probabilities of gates, hardening gates that have the lowest logical masking probability to achieve cost-effective ...

Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Computational and experimental determination of laser hardening zones and tribotechnical characteristics of tool steels [PDF]
The paper presents the results of metallographic studies and tribotechnical tests of samples of Cr12V1 steel with laser hardening. The influence of the processing modes of the edge of the samples on the geometric parameters of the quenching zones and ...

Radiation hardening of components and systems for nuclear rocket vehicle applications [PDF]
The results of the analysis of the S-2 and S-4B components, although incomplete, indicate that many Saturn 5 components and subsystems, e.g., pumps, valves, etc., can be radiation hardened to meet NRV requirements by material substitution and minor ...

Single-Event Effects and Radiation Hardening in Digital Circuits [PDF]
Single-event effects (SEEs) are a group of phenomena manifesting for the most part, in integrated circuits (ICs). SEEs are disruptions in the operation of circuits, that are caused by ionizing radiation.

A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.
