Type 1 IGF receptor in human breast diseases
Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, 1992The first step of the action of IGF1 and IGF2 (IGFs) is their binding to membrane receptors. IGF binding sites have been characterized by competitive binding and cross-linking techniques in human breast cancer cell lines as well as in human breast cancers and in human benign breast diseases.

Involvement of phenylalanine 23 in the binding of IGF-1 to the insulin and type I IGF receptor
Regulatory Peptides, 1996The hydrophobic residue Phe-23 lies on a surface of insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) which may be involved in binding to the type I IGF and insulin receptors. The possibility that Phe-23 participates directly in binding to these receptors has been investigated by comparing the properties of [F23G]IGF-1, a mutant of insulin-like growth factor 1 in ...

IGF Resistance: The Role of the Type 1 IGF Receptor
2005The growth hormone (GH)-insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I axis is the dominant regulator of somatic growth in vertebrates. Growth deficits of varying severity follow experimental deletion of individual IGF axis components, with all but about 15% of the growth of an adult mouse explicable by the combined contributions of growth hormone and IGF-I ...

P46 Studies on the bivalent interaction of IGF-II with the insulin and type 1 IGF receptors
Growth Hormone & IGF Research, 2010demonstrated the role of the IGF system in the regulation of trophoblast proliferation and survival and alterations in the IGF ligands or the receptors could have implications in the pathogenesis of trophoblastic diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of the IGF system in trophoblast cell differentiation by evaluating the ...

Regulatory Peptides, 1993
The regulation of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) by its ligands, IGF-I and IGF-II, was studied in continuous cultures of HepG2 human hepatoma cells. Both IGF-I and IGF-II in concentrations as low as 1-10 nmol/l caused significant suppression of IGFBP-I protein levels.

Journal of Molecular Endocrinology, 1995
ABSTRACT The insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I and IGF-II), their receptors and binding proteins (IGFBPs) are endogenously expressed in a number of tissues including the lung during fetal and neonatal development. This endogenous autocrine/paracrine IGF 'system', together with endocrine sources, contributes to the regulation of lung cell proliferation.

Moderate caloric restriction increases type 1 IGF receptors and protein synthesis in aging rats
Mechanisms of Ageing and Development, 1993Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is an anabolic hormone that mediates the actions of growth hormone (GH) and is found at lower concentrations in aged animals. These decreases in GH and IGF-1 appear to have important physiological consequences for aging, since protein synthesis decreases with age, and administration of GH and/or IGF-1 has been shown

Dysregulation of the Type 1 IGF receptor as a paradigm in tumor progression
Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 1998The Type 1 IGF receptor plays a critical role in cell progression. During normal ontogeny it is expressed by every proliferating cell, where it functions as a potent cell survival agent. Disruption of the Type 1 IGF receptor gene by homologous recombination results in severely growth retarded animals which invariably die at birth.

Significance of nuclear phospholipase C signaling through type 1 IGF receptor.
Journal of endocrinological investigation, 2004The existence of a nuclear polyphosphoinositol metabolism independent from that at the plasma membrane is now widely recognized. Specific changes in the nuclear phosphatidylinositol (Ptdlns) metabolism have been implicated in cell growth, differentiation, and neoplastic transformation.

Altered gene expression and/or actions of the insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) have been implicated in the mediation of both pre- and postnatal growth retardation secondary to glucocorticoid excess. To investigate this possibility, we assessed the gene expression of the IGFs, the type I IGF receptor, and IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) in 20-day ...
