“What Medical Management Should Be First Line for Bladder Storage Symptoms in NLUTD”—Pro Botox

open access: yesNeurourology and Urodynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) severely impairs patient quality of life (QoL). While oral medications are often first‐line treatments, their high failure rates and side effects limit their effectiveness. Thus, we argue for the use of intravesical botulinum toxin A (BoNT‐A) injections as a first‐line alternative ...

Anti-hyperalgesic effects of calcitonin on neuropathic pain interacting with its peripheral receptors

open access: yesMolecular Pain, 2012
Background The polypeptide hormone calcitonin is clinically well known for its ability to relieve neuropathic pain such as spinal canal stenosis, diabetic neuropathy and complex regional pain syndrome. Mechanisms for its analgesic effect, however, remain

Role of Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide in Inhibitory Neurotransmission to the Pig Bladder Neck

open access: yes, 2011
Purpose: We studied the role of calcitonin gene-related peptide in nonadrenergic, noncholinergic neurotransmission to the pig bladder neck. Materials and Methods: We used immunohistochemical techniques to determine the distribution of calcitonin gene ...

Sex differences in expression of CGRP family of receptors and ligands in the rat trigeminal system

open access: yesThe Journal of Headache and Pain
Background Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is part of the calcitonin peptide family, which includes calcitonin (CT), amylin (AMY), and adrenomedullin (ADM). CGRP and its receptor are highly present in the trigeminovascular system (TVS).

Calcitonin Receptors on Cultured Human Lymphocytes

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1974
SUMMARY Established human lymphoid cell lines bound calcitonin with high affinity. Calcitonin binding was detectable on both B cell and T cell lines derived from patients with a spectrum of lymphoproliferative disorders. These cell lines had marked differences in binding capacity per cell even when adjusted for differences in surface area.

Gene Transfer of Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide Inhibits Macrophages and Inflammatory Mediators in Vein Graft Disease

open access: yes, 2008
Vein graft disease is a chronic inflammatory disease and limits the late results of coronary revascularization. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) inhibits macrophages infiltrated and inflammatory mediators, we hypothesized that transfected CGRP gene

Localization and characterization of renal calcitonin receptors by in vitro autoradiography

open access: yes, 1987
Localization and characterization of renal calcitonin receptors by in vitro autoradiography. Calcitonin receptor binding sites were identified in renal cortex and medulla using the radioligand 125I-salmon calcitonin.

Research Progress on Upper Airway Cough Syndrome

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Upper airway cough syndrome (UACS) has been identified as a significant contributor to chronic cough in various national guidelines. However, the complexity of its pathogenesis, the lack of clarity surrounding its diagnostic criteria, and its overlap with other etiologies of chronic cough present considerable challenges in both diagnosis and ...

Comorbidity Patterns Between Hearing Loss and Symptomatic Dizziness in Middle‐Aged and Older Adults

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore the comorbidity patterns between hearing loss and symptomatic dizziness (HL‐SD) in middle‐aged and older adults. Methods This cross‐sectional study used data from the 1999 to 2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). After excluding incomplete data, 2961 participants aged 40–69 were analyzed. Logistic
