Renal Receptors for Calcitonin: Coordinate Occurrence with Calcitonin-Activated Adenylate Cyclase

Endocrinology, 1975
High affinity binding of 125I-labeled salmon calcitonin ([125I]SCT) and calcitonin-activated adenylate cyclase were detectable in renal plasma membranes from the rat. Addition of 5'-guanylyl-imidodiphosphate lowered the threshold for enzyme activation by peptide hormones.

Calcitonin/PAC1 receptor splice variants

Trends in pharmacological sciences, 2023
The neuropeptides calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and their receptors are linked to migraine neurobiology. Recent antimigraine therapeutics targeting the signaling of these neuropeptides are effective; however, some patients respond suboptimally, indicating an incomplete ...

Calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide and renal calcitonin receptors in the Zucker rat.

Bone and mineral, 1989
In this study we investigated (a) whether genetically obese Zucker rats exhibit higher levels of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in the thyroid and plasma than lean controls, (b) if CGRP, like calcitonin (CT), increases in plasma in response to iv Ca or iv pentagastrin and (c) whether or not renal CT receptors exhibit 'downregulation' in fat ...

[Parathyroid hormone and calcitonin receptors].

Annales d'endocrinologie, 1990
Parathyroid hormone and calcitonin are involved in the regulation of calcium metabolism via specific receptors in target organs principally bone and kidney. The pertinent findings in this rapidly evolving area of research are briefly summarized. The receptors for these two hormones have been extensively localised, the transduction of their signal ...

Characteristics of Brain Calcitonin Receptors

1989
Calcitonin (CT), a 32-amino acid peptide, was first discovered as a hypocalcemic hormone1,2. The major site of its biosynthesis is the thyroid gland C cell, which is well-documented to have its embryologic origin in the neural crest. Both the calcium ion itself and gut hormones, such as gastrin, are potent secretagogues of thyroidal CT3.
