Evaluation of the DREAM Technique for a High-Throughput Deorphanization of Chemosensory Receptors in Drosophila

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2018
In the vinegar fly Drosophila melanogaster, the majority of olfactory receptors mediating the detection of volatile chemicals found in their natural habitat have been functionally characterized (deorphanized) in vivo. In this process, receptors have been

A carboxylesterase, Esterase-6, modulates sensory physiological and behavioral response dynamics to pheromone in Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Conclusions: Our study presents evidence that Est-6 plays a role in the physiological and behavioral dynamics of sex pheromone response in Drosophila males and supports a role of Est-6 as an odorant-degrading enzyme (ODE) in male antennae.

Gas Chromatography‐Based Methods for Profiling Volatile Off‐Aroma Compounds in Grain Legumes: A Review

open access: yesLegume Science, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Instrumental characterisation of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs), responsible for off‐aroma, is mainly centred on gas chromatography‐based techniques. Despite previous reviews that have addressed the chemical compounds and biosynthetic pathways of off‐aroma generation, to date, there is a lack of a comprehensive review that critically ...

Antennal and abdominal transcriptomes reveal chemosensory gene families in the coconut hispine beetle, Brontispa longissima

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Antennal and abdominal transcriptomes of males and females of the coconut hispine beetle Brontispa longissima were sequenced to identify and compare the expression patterns of genes involved in odorant reception and detection.

Transition Metal‐Catalyzed Functionalization of Nonallylic Alkenyl Alcohols via Chain‐Walking Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 9, 5 May 2026.
This minireview outlines recent advances in chain‐walking reactions of nonallylic alkenyl alcohols catalyzed by various transition metals, including palladium, ruthenium, rhodium, iridium, and nickel. Furthermore, the corresponding reaction mechanisms are discussed.

Testing odorant-receptor interaction theories in humans through discrimination of isotopomers

open access: yesJournal of Biological Research, 2017
Odour reception takes place on the olfactory receptor neuron membrane, where molecular receptors interact with volatile odorant molecules. This interaction is classically thought to rely on chemical and structural features of the odorant, e.g.

Beyond Modeling: All-Atom Olfactory Receptor Model Simulations

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2012
Olfactory receptors (ORs) are a type of GTP-binding protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). These receptors are responsible for mediating the sense of smell through their interaction with odor ligands. OR-odorant interactions marks the first step in the process

GC × GC‐TOF MS and Sensory Profiling of Aroma Compounds in Magnolia Species: Effects of Processing Methods on Volatile Retention in M. wufengensis

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, Volume 41, Issue 3, Page 487-503, May 2026.
The first comparative analysis of Magnolia scents reveals that M. wufengensis is characterised by a high aldehyde content, exhibiting a fresh, sweet, and fruity fragrance profile. Furthermore, freeze‐drying preserves 6.7 times more 2‐nonenal compared to shade‐drying, highlighting its superior efficacy in retaining key volatile compounds.

Identification and expression pattern analysis of chemosensory receptor genes in the Macrocentrus cingulum (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) antennae

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2016
Macrocentrus cingulum is an important polyembryonic endoparasitic wasp that attacks larvae of the Asian corn borer, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenée) and the European corn borer, O. nubilalis (Hübner).
