Overview of Radiolabeled Somatostatin Analogs for Cancer Imaging and Therapy

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Identified in 1973, somatostatin (SST) is a cyclic hormone peptide with a short biological half-life. Somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) are widely expressed in the whole body, with five subtypes described. The interaction between SST and its receptors leads

Calcitriol-Mediated Hypercalcemia, Somatostatin Receptors Expression and 25-Hydroxyvitamin D3-1α- Hydroxylase in GIST Tumors

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2022
Hypercalcemia is a common complication in cancer patients Mainly caused by Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) secretion and metastasis. Calcitriol secretion is a rare source of hypercalcemia in solid tumors, especially in gastrointestinal ...

Towards a Radio-guided Surgery with $\beta^{-}$ Decays: Uptake of a somatostatin analogue (DOTATOC) in Meningioma and High Grade Glioma

open access: yes, 2014
A novel radio guided surgery (RGS) technique for cerebral tumors using $\beta^{-}$ radiation is being developed. Checking the availability of a radio-tracer that can deliver a $\beta^{-}$ emitter to the tumor is a fundamental step in the deployment of ...

Pituitary somatostatin receptor signaling [PDF]

open access: yesTrends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2010
Somatotropin-release inhibitory factor (SRIF) is a major regulator of pituitary function, mostly inhibiting hormone secretion and to a lesser extent pituitary cell growth. Five SRIF receptor subtypes (SSTR1-5) are ubiquitously expressed G-protein coupled receptors.

Photocaged Oxytocin and Vasopressin Probes to Decipher Neuropeptide Signalling With High Spatiotemporal Resolution

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Novel and biocompatible photoactivatable oxytocin and vasopressin probes, utilising state‐of‐the‐art photocages, remain inactive in the dark. Light exposure facilitates rapid spatiotemporal receptor activation and phospholipase C (PLC)‐mediated downstream signalling. Figure created in https://BioRender.com.

Unresectable Recurrent Multiple Meningioma: A Case Report with Radiological Response to Somatostatin Analogues

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncology, 2016
Medical treatment of meningiomas is reserved for cases in which surgery and radiotherapy have failed. Given that a high percentage of meningiomas express somatostatin receptors, treatment with somatostatin analogues has been proposed.

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

A computational study of somatostatin subtype-4 receptor agonist binding

open access: yesSN Applied Sciences, 2022
The somatostatin subtype-4 receptor (sst4) is highly expressed in neocortical and hippocampal areas, which are affected by amyloid beta accumulation. Sst4 agonists enhance downstream activity of amyloid beta peptide catabolism through neprilysin and may ...

Bidirectional plasticity of GABAergic tonic inhibition in hippocampal somatostatin- and parvalbumin-containing interneurons

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2023
GABAA receptors present in extrasynaptic areas mediate tonic inhibition in hippocampal neurons regulating the performance of neural networks. In this study, we investigated the effect of NMDA-induced plasticity on tonic inhibition in somatostatin- and ...

Acromegaly: pathogenesis & treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Acromegaly is a multi-system disorder whose etiology is most often traced back to a growth hormone-secreting pituitary adenoma (PA). Growth hormone (GH) secretion promotes insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) release from peripheral tissues, leading to ...
