Internalization and recycling of activated thrombin receptors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1993
Shortly after activation by either thrombin or the tethered ligand domain peptide SFLLRN, thrombin receptors undergo homologous desensitization, temporarily losing their ability to respond to both agonists. We have examined the role of receptor internalization and recycling in this process using receptor-directed antibodies as probes.

Molecular Recognition with Biological Receptors: Structure-Based Design of Thrombin Inhibitors

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2000
Molecular recognition is at the center of biological function. Consequently, a profound understanding of the underlying nonbonding interactions is required to intervene in a rational way in biological processes.

Constitutive Expression of Functionally Active Protease-Activated Receptors 1 and 2 in Human Conjunctival Epithelial Cells

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2006
Protease-activated receptors (PARs) are G-protein-coupled receptors which initiate inflammatory responses when activated by specific serine proteases.

Factor Xa and thrombin induce endothelial progenitor cell activation. The effect of direct oral anticoagulants

open access: yesPlatelets, 2021
Factor Xa (FXa) and thrombin exert non-hemostatic cellular actions primarily mediated through protease-activated receptors (PARs). We investigated the effect of FXa and thrombin on human late-outgrowth endothelial cells (OECs), a type of endothelial ...

Thrombin increases inflammatory cytokine and angiogenic growth factor secretion in human adipose cells in vitro

open access: yesJournal of Inflammation, 2009
Background Abdominal obesity is associated with pro-thrombotic and inflammatory states. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the expression of thrombin receptors (PAR1 and PAR4) human adipose tissue and whether thrombin stimulates an ...

Treating seizures and epilepsy with anticoagulants?

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2013
Thrombin is a serine protease playing an essential role in the blood coagulation cascade. Recent work, however, has identified a novel role for thrombin-mediated signaling pathways in the central nervous system.

Targeting Platelet Thrombin Receptor Signaling to Prevent Thrombosis

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2013
Platelets contribute fundamentally to ischemic heart disease, and antiplatelet therapy has been critical to reducing acute thrombotic complications of atherosclerotic disease.

Mice lacking protease nexin-1 show delayed structural and functional recovery after sciatic nerve crush [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Multiple molecular mechanisms influence nerve regeneration. Because serine proteases were shown to affect peripheral nerve regeneration, we performed nerve crush experiments to study synapse reinnervation in adult mice lacking the serpin protease nexin-1

Thrombin Promotes Matrix Metalloproteinase-13 Expression through the PKCδ/c-Src/EGFR/PI3K/Akt/AP-1 Signaling Pathway in Human Chondrocytes

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2013
Thrombin is a key mediator of fibrin deposition, angiogenesis, and proinflammatory processes. Abnormalities in these processes are primary features of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Determination of PAR4 numbers on the surface of human platelets: no effect of the single nucleotide polymorphism rs773902

open access: yesPlatelets, 2021
The thrombin receptor, protease-activated receptor 4 (PAR4), is important for platelet activation and is the target of emerging anti-thrombotic drugs. A frequently occurring single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP; rs773902) causes a function-altering PAR4 ...
