Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Reconstruction of Normal and Pathological Human Epidermis on Polycarbonate Filter
This chapter provides methods suitable for the culture of primary human keratinocytes in serum-free culture conditions, starting from very small skin biopsies. It also explains procedures required for reconstruction of a stratified epidermis on polycarbonate filter, starting from keratinocytes cultured in serum-free conditions.

A new reconstructed human epidermis for in vitro skin irritation testing
Different models of reconstructed human epidermis (RHE) are currently validated to assess skin irritation in vitro and ultimately to the animal replacement of the Draize test. The development of a new RHE model is a challenge for many laboratories, representing a potential gain of autonomy and improvement of technological knowledge.

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

The use of reconstructed human epidermis for skin absorption testing
S.161-187A formal validation study was performed, in order to investigate whether the commercially available reconstructed human epidermis (RHE) models, EPISKIN (R), EpiDerm (TM) and SkinEthic (R), are suitable for in vitro skin absorption testing.

The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Rare‐Earth–Functionalized Carbon Dot Hydrogels as Mechanically Robust Antibacterial Wound Dressings
The schematic depicts a dynamically cross‐linked PVA hydrogel network in which reversible borate ester bonds and hydrogen‐bonding interactions integrate lanthanum‐doped carbon dots (La‐CDs) and dipotassium glycyrrhizinate (DPG) to form a mechanically robust, multifunctional matrix.

A spatially controlled embedded bioprinting strategy enables precise engineering of prevascularized multicellular spheroids within skin‐derived dECM bioinks. Optimized spheroid size, composition, and spacing promote vascular maturation, paracrine signaling, and tissue integration, resulting in enhanced angiogenesis, blood perfusion, and functional skin
