Plasticity of human CD4 T cell subsets

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2014
Human beings are exposed to a variety of different pathogens, which induce tailored immune responses and consequently generate highly diverse populations of pathogen-specific T cells.

T cell-specific suppressor factor(s) with regulatory influence on interleukin 2 production and function [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
In this study we report that alloantigen-activated spleen cells produce both amplifying and suppressive factors under the same conditions. Both types of soluble mediators--as detected in different assay systems-- were present in the supernatants of in ...

Controversies concerning thymus-derived regulatory T cells: fundamental issues and a new perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Thymus-derived regulatory T cells (Tregs) are considered to be a distinct T-cell lineage that is genetically programmed and specialised for immunosuppression.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

T Regulatory Cells [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation Research, 2006
See related article, pages 1109–1116 Myocarditis is an acute inflammatory disease of the heart and a precursor of dilated cardiomyopathy.1–8 Dilated cardiomyopathy is a more chronic disease which is characterized by ventricular hypertrophy and which may be a direct result of myocarditis and lead to heart failure.1–3,9 Myocarditis is often ...

The Effect of Statins on the Functionality of CD4+CD25+FOXP3+ Regulatory T-cells in Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomised Controlled Trials in Asian Populations

open access: yesEuropean Cardiology Review, 2019
Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is characterised by increased effector cells and decreased regulatory T-cells (Tregs). Statins have been shown to be clinically beneficial in ACS patients.

Genetic determinants of co-accessible chromatin regions in activated T cells across humans. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Over 90% of genetic variants associated with complex human traits map to non-coding regions, but little is understood about how they modulate gene regulation in health and disease.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Tr1-like T cells- an enigmatic regulatory T cell lineage

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2016
The immune system evolved to respond to foreign invaders and prevent autoimmunity to self-antigens. Several types of regulatory T cells facilitate the latter process.
