On how Happy Polish Advanced EFL Learners Are with Happy-Tensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper aims at investigating the production of happY vowel by advanced Polish learners of English. Although happY tensing has become a regular feature of mainstream RP, it is not explicitly taught at English philologies in Poland.

Inclusion, Contrast and Polysemy in Dictionaries: The Relationship between Theory, Language Use and Lexicographic Practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper explores the lexicographic representation of a type of polysemy that arises when the meaning of one lexical item can either include or contrast with the meaning of another, as in the case of dog/bitch, shoe/boot, finger/thumb and animal/bird ...

RIG‐I Mediated Neuron‐Specific IFN Type 1 Signaling in FUS‐ALS Induces Neurodegeneration and Offers New Biomarker‐Driven Individualized Treatment Options for (FUS‐)ALS

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using iPSC‐derived motoneurons and postmortem tissue from FUS‐ALS patients, it is demonstrated that increased mitochondrial transcription leads to elevated cytosolic double‐stranded RNA (dsRNA) levels. This aberrant accumulation activates a RIG‐I–dependent innate immune response leading to neurodegeneration, which is amenable for FDA‐ and EMA‐approved ...

The NF-κB subunit RelA/p65 is dispensable for successful liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy in mice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BACKGROUND: The transcription factor NF-κB consisting of the subunits RelA/p65 and p50 is known to be quickly activated after partial hepatectomy (PH), the functional relevance of which is still a matter of debate.

Discourse Markers and Modal Expressions in Speakers with and without Asperger Syndrome: A Pragmatic-Perceptive Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
From a theoretical point of view, this paper offers a new framework for the analysis of discourse markers: a pragmatic-perceptive model that emphasizes the point of the communication process in which such particles become more relevant. Furthermore, this

C11orf95-RELA Reprograms 3D Epigenome in Supratentorial Ependymoma [PDF]

open access: yesActa Neuropathologica, 2020
Supratentorial ependymoma (ST-EPN) is a type of malignant brain tumor mainly seen in children. Since 2014, it has been known that an intrachromosomal fusionC11orf95-RELAis an oncogenic driver in ST-EPN1but the molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis are unclear.

Disengaging the Engine: Histone Deacetylases 1 and 2‐Mediated Acetylation of Hexokinase‐2 Regulates Energy Metabolism in Microglia Following Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that HDAC1/2 knockout in microglia alleviates neurological deficits, preserves white matter, and accelerates hematoma clearance after ICH. HDAC1/2 inhibition reduces HK2 acetylation, shifts metabolism from glycolysis to fatty acid oxidation, reduces inflammation, and enhances phagocytosis.

Case report: Novel variants in RELA associated with familial Behcet’s-like disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
RELA haploinsufficiency is a recently described autoinflammatory condition presenting with intermittent fevers and mucocutaneous ulcerations. The RELA gene encodes the p65 protein, one of five NF-κB family transcription factors.

Effect of Energy Metabolism on NF-kB activity in Ovarian Cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
NF-kB is a transcription factor involved in cancer cell growth and survival. The activation of NF-kB can be assessed by monitoring phosphorylation of RelA p65 at Ser-536, which is a surrogate of the NF-kB transcription factor activation. The objective of
