Implementation of guideline‐recommended medical therapy for patients with heart failure in Europe

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 790-798, April 2025.
Abstract Physicians' adherence to guideline‐recommended heart failure (HF) treatment remains suboptimal, especially regarding the target doses. In particular, there is evidence that non‐cardiologists are less compliant with HF guideline recommendations. This is likely to have a detrimental impact on patients' survival, readmissions and quality of life.

Separable bi-Hamiltonian systems with quadratic in momenta first integrals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
Geometric separability theory of Gel'fand-Zakharevich bi-Hamiltonian systems on Riemannian manifolds is reviewed and developed. Particular attention is paid to the separability of systems generated by the so-called special conformal Killing tensors, i.e. Benenti systems.

Manipulation of the Renin-Angiotensin System [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 2001
Since the initial description of angiotensin II–mediated hypertension >40 years ago, basic and clinical investigations of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) have resulted in a broader understanding of cardiovascular pathophysiology and significant advances in therapy.

Interventional therapies for chronic heart failure: An overview of recent developments

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1081-1094, April 2025.
Abstract Heart failure (HF), the final manifestation of most cardiovascular diseases, has become a major global health concern, affecting millions of individuals. Despite basic drug treatments, patients present with high morbidity and mortality rates. However, recent advancements in interventional therapy have shown promising results in improving the ...

Thyroid Disorders Change the Pattern of Response of Angiotensinase Activities in the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal Axis of Male Rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2018
Thyroid disorders affect the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis with important consequences on the cardiovascular function in which the renin-angiotensin system plays a major role.

Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System, Glucose Metabolism and Incident Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: MESA. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background Mechanistic studies suggest that aldosterone impairs glucose metabolism. We investigated the cross-sectional associations of aldosterone and plasma renin activity with fasting plasma glucose, insulin resistance ( IR ), β-cell function, and ...

Severe loss-of-function mutations in the adrenocorticotropin receptor (ACTHR, MC2R) can be found in patients diagnosed with salt-losing adrenal hypoplasia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Objective: Familial glucocorticoid deficiency type I (FGD1) is a rare form of primary adrenal insufficiency resulting from recessive mutations in the ACTH receptor (MC2R, MC2R).

Analysis of the usefulness and benefits of ultrafiltration in cardiorenal syndrome: A systematic review

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1194-1202, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Cardiac decompensation in cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) results in systemic congestion usually treated with diuretics. When despite high doses of diuretics, response is poor, ultrafiltration (UF) appears to be a useful and safe technique.
