Description of unilateral kidney embolism and contralateral nephrectomy as a less invasive remnant kidney model in cats; a proof‐of‐concept study

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Unilateral, minimally invasive, renal arterial embolization and delayed contralateral nephrectomy was described in cats as a novel remnant kidney model of chronic kidney disease using two doses of embolic particles. Renal function declined and characteristic histopathological markers of kidney disease were present 6 months after the embolism procedure.

Of Mice and Renin [PDF]

open access: yesHypertension, 2017
See related article, pp 119–128 Organisms tend to compensate for the need of a cellular function by increasing the amount or the size of the responsible cell type. Hypertrophy of all muscle types under increased workload is a prominent example. Also several hormone systems react by increasing the amount of hormone-producing cells, when the main ...

Absence of Functional Autoantibodies Targeting Angiotensin II Receptor Type 1 and Endothelin‐1 Type A Receptor in Circulation and Purified IgG From Patients With Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare but severe autoimmune disease characterized by immune dysregulation, fibrosis, and vasculopathy. Although previous studies have highlighted the presence of functional autoantibodies targeting the angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1) and endothelin‐1 type A receptor (ETAR), leading to autoantibody‐mediated ...

Feeding pregnant ewes a high-salt diet or saltbush suppresses their offspring’s postnatal renin activity

open access: yesAnimal, 2009
If ewes consumed a high-salt diet or saltbush during the last 3 months of pregnancy and for 3 weeks after birth, we expected the renin activity of their lamb to be suppressed at birth and at 3 weeks of age.

Brain Renin–Angiotensin System: Does It Exist?

open access: yesHYPERTENSION, 2017
Because of the presence of the blood–brain barrier, brain renin–angiotensin system activity should depend on local (pro)renin synthesis. Indeed, an intracellular form of renin has been described in the brain, but whether it displays angiotensin (Ang) I ...

Purification of Pig Renin [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1965
1. A new method of purification of renin is described. This method employs the following procedures: ethanol precipitation; saline extraction; precipitation of renin with 40% ammonium sulphate; precipitation of impurities with 3% ammonium sulphate at pH2.5; chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and CM-Sephadex; gel filtration on Sephadex G-100 (both normal ...

The accessory renal arteries: A systematic review with meta‐analysis

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
Abstract The accessory renal arteries (ARAs) are a well‐described variant of the renal vasculature with clinical implications for radiologists, surgeons, and clinicians. The aim of the present systematic review with meta‐analysis was to estimate the pooled prevalence of ARAs, including their variant number, origin, and termination, and to highlight ...

Implications of Plasma Renin Activity and Plasma Aldosterone Concentration in Critically Ill Patients with Septic Shock [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Critical Care Medicine, 2017
Background The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system is closely associated with volume status and vascular tone in septic shock. The present study aimed to assess whether plasma renin activity (PRA) and plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) measurements ...

Effect of cortisol on achieving target blood pressure levels in patients with resistant hypertension and chronic kidney disease

open access: yesMìžnarodnij Endokrinologìčnij Žurnal, 2023
Background. Resistant hypertension is defined as failure to achieve the target blood pressure (BP), despite treatment with at least three antihypertensive drugs that include a diuretic, and is associated with a poor prognosis.
