Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

A high throughput screening system for predicting chemically-induced reproductive organ deformities

open access: yes, 2022
S.95-103There is a great need for alternative testing methods for reproductive toxicants that are practical, fast, cost-effective and easy to interpret.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Modulating Effects of L-Arginine and Tribulus terrestris Extract on Fipronil-Induced Interference in the Male Reproductive System of Rats: Antioxidant Potential, Androgen Receptors, and Nitric Oxide Synthase Interplay

open access: yes
The protective potentials of Tribulus terrestris (TT) and L-arginine (L-Arg) against reproductive toxicity induced by fipronil (FPN) in male rats were investigated. A total of 36 male rats were allocated into six groups: control, TT, L-Arg, FPN, FPN + TT,

The accumulation of Microcystin-LR in the gonads of Pelophylax nigromaculatus during the reproductive periods induces reproductive endocrine disorders in their offspring

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Microcystin-LR’s reproductive (reproductive and non-reproductive periods) and transgenerational toxicity in amphibians remains poorly understood. Adult Pelophylax nigromaculatus in reproductive and non-reproductive periods were exposed to MC-LR to ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Direct and In-Utero Exposure to Quaternary Ammonium Disinfectants Alters Sperm Parameters and mRNA Expression of Epigenetic Enzymes in the Testes of Male CD-1 Mice

open access: yes
Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) are a class of chemicals used for their antimicrobial, surfactant, and antistatic properties. QACs are present in many consumer products, and people are regularly exposed to them. We have previously shown reproductive

Ecotoxicology and ecophysiology of mysids, with special reference to copper toxicity in Praunus flexuosus

open access: yes, 2000
Toxicity of dissolved copper was examined in a common coastal mysid population {Praunusflexuosus}. The life cycle and ecophysiology were studied under natural conditions throughout the year, and responses to dissolved copper were determined in the ...
