Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Prevention And Treatment of Hypertension With Algorithm-based therapy (PATHWAY) number 2:protocol for a randomised crossover trial to determine optimal treatment for drug-resistant hypertension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
INTRODUCTION: Resistant hypertension is inadequately controlled blood pressure (BP) despite treatment with at least three BP-lowering drugs. A popular hypothesis is that resistant hypertension is due to excessive Na(+)-retention, and that 'further ...

Effects of dietary cinnamaldehyde supplementation in the perinatal period on reproductive performance, milk composition, redox status and gut microbiota of sows

open access: yesAnimal Nutrition
Improving sow health during the perinatal period is crucial for reproductive performance. Cinnamaldehyde (CA), a naturally occurring compound, is known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and gut microbiota-modulating properties. This study evaluated

Interactive Effects of Grafting Techniques and Scion-Rootstocks Combinations on Vegetative Growth, Yield and Quality of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
The density of herbaceous crops creates a suitable environment to produce pathogens in the soil that intensify the attack of pathogens traditionally controlled by disinfectant, which are mostly prohibited and unlisted because of their toxicity.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Effects of nicotinamide riboside supplementation during late gestation and lactation on sow performance, milk metabolome, and gut microbiome

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Biotechnology
Background Nicotinamide riboside (NR) supplementation has been demonstrated efficacy in enhancing female reproductive outcomes, but its regulatory role in sow performance and gut microbiome remains undefined.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Udder Pathogens Isolated from Dairy Herds in the West Littoral Region of Uruguay

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2002
A total of 522 strains belonging to streptococci, enterococci and staphylococci isolated from sub-clinical and clinical cases of bovine mastitis from the west littoral region of Uruguay were analysed for their susceptibility to several antimicrobial ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Bedaquiline, pretomanid and linezolid for treatment of extensively drug resistant, intolerant or non-responsive multidrug resistant pulmonary tuberculosis

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2020
Background Patients with extensively drug resistant tuberculosis (TB) have limited treatment options with historically poor outcomes. We investigated treatment with 3 oral drugs, bedaquiline (B), pretomanid (Pa) and linezolid (L), (B-Pa-L), with TB ...
