Investigating Ebola virus pathogenicity using molecular dynamics

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2017
Background Ebolaviruses have been known to cause deadly disease in humans for 40 years and have recently been demonstrated in West Africa to be able to cause large outbreaks.

Ebola Reston Virus Infection of Pigs: Clinical Significance and Transmission Potential [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2011
In 2008, Reston ebolavirus (REBOV) was isolated from pigs during a disease investigation in the Philippines. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2) infections were also confirmed in affected herds and the contribution of REBOV to the disease outbreak remains uncertain.

VP24-Karyopherin alpha binding affinities differ between Ebolavirus species, nfluencing interferon inhibition and VP24 stability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Zaire ebolavirus (EBOV), Bundibugyo ebolavirus (BDBV), and Reston ebolavirus (RESTV) belong to the same genus but exhibit different virulence properties.

A review of epidemiological parameters from Ebola outbreaks to inform early public health decision-making. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The unprecedented scale of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has, as of 29 April 2015, resulted in more than 10,884 deaths among 26,277 cases. Prior to the ongoing outbreak, Ebola virus disease (EVD) caused relatively small outbreaks (maximum outbreak ...

Ebola Virus Antibodies in Fruit Bats, Bangladesh

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2013
To determine geographic range for Ebola virus, we tested 276 bats in Bangladesh. Five (3.5%) bats were positive for antibodies against Ebola Zaire and Reston viruses; no virus was detected by PCR.

Ebola virus VP30 and nucleoprotein interactions modulate viral RNA synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ebola virus (EBOV) is an enveloped negative-sense RNA virus that causes sporadic outbreaks with high case fatality rates. Ebola viral protein 30 (eVP30) plays a critical role in EBOV transcription initiation at the nucleoprotein (eNP) gene, with ...

Ebola-Reston virus in pigs [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology Australia, 2009
Ebolavirus Reston was detected in samples taken from pigs on two farms in the northern Philippines in mid-2008. This was the first known case of any of the filoviruses being detected in pigs anywhere in the world. Previously, filoviruses have only been isolated from humans and non-human primates, although serological evidence indicates that bats may ...

Serological evidence of ebolavirus infection in bats, China

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2012
Background The genus Ebolavirus of the family Filoviridae currently consists of five species. All species, with the exception of Reston ebolavirus, have been found in Africa and caused severe human diseases.
