The aim of this review was to provide an update on the potential of cell therapies to restore or replace damaged and/or lost cells in retinal degenerative and optic nerve diseases, describing the available cell sources and the challenges involved in such

Following acute retinal damage, zebrafish possess the ability to regenerate all neuronal subtypes through Müller glia (MG) reprogramming and asymmetric cell division that produces a multipotent Müller glia-derived neuronal progenitor cell (MGPC).

Plagl1 regulates the retinal progenitor cell to Müller glial cell transition. [PDF]
Müller glia arise from late-stage retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) as a distinct lineage that diverges from neurogenic trajectories. Here, we identify the maternally imprinted gene Plagl1 as a key transcriptional regulator of gliogenesis in the murine retina. Plagl1

Improved arteriogenesis with simultaneous skeletal muscle repair in ischemic tissue by SCL plus multipotent adult progenitor cell clones from peripheral blood [PDF]
Background: The CD34- murine stem cell line RM26 cloned from peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been shown to generate hematopoietic progeny in lethally irradiated animals.

TULP4, a novel E3 ligase gene, participates in neuronal migration as a candidate in schizophrenia
Mutations identified from four SCZ pedigrees resulted in decreased TULP4 expression. Tulp4 knockdown caused delayed neuron migration in embryonic mice, and impaired cognition and prepulse inhibition in adult mice. These phenotypes may be related to TULP4 through its involvement in the formation of a novel E3 ubiquitin ligases.

Milieu-adopted in vitro and in vivo differentiation of mesenchymal tissues derived from different adult human CD34-negative progenitor cell clones [PDF]
Adult mesenchymal stem cells with multilineage differentiation potentially exist in the bone marrow, but have also been isolated from the peripheral blood.

Targeted ablation of CRB1 and CRB2 in retinal progenitor cells mimics Leber congenital amaurosis. [PDF]
Development in the central nervous system is highly dependent on the regulation of the switch from progenitor cell proliferation to differentiation, but the molecular and cellular events controlling this process remain poorly understood.

Damaging effect of ischemia on the development of retinal organoids derived from human embryonic stem cells [PDF]
AIM: To explore the changes in early retinal development after the occurrence of ischemia. METHODS: Human retinal organoids (hROs) of day 18 or day 30 were treated with oxygen-glucose deprivation and reperfusion (OGD/R) to simulate the retinal ischemia ...
