Rifampicin-resistance, rpoB polymorphism and RNA polymerase genetic engineering

open access: yesJournal of Biotechnology, 2015
Following its introduction in 1967, rifampicin has become a mainstay of therapy in the treatment of tuberculosis, leprosy and many other widespread diseases. Its potent antibacterial activity is due to specific inhibition of bacterial RNA polymerase. However, resistance to rifampicin was reported shortly after its introduction in the medical practice ...

Mutations inside rifampicin-resistance determining region of rpoB gene associated with rifampicin-resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

open access: yesJournal of Infection and Public Health, 2018
Background: Rifampicin (RIF) plays a pivotal role in the treatment of tuberculosis due to its bactericidal effects. Because the action of RIF is on rpoB gene encoding RNA polymerase β subunit, 95% of RIF resistant mutations are present in rpoB gene.

Molecular cloning and characterization of Borrelia burgdorferi rpoB

Gene, 1997
Borrelia burgdorferi rpoB, the gene encoding the beta-subunit of RNA polymerase, has been cloned and sequenced. The full-length gene encodes a protein of 1154 amino acids with a calculated molecular mass of 129.8 kDa. The amino-acid sequence is 49% identical to the corresponding protein from Escherichia coli. Phylogeny of the family Pasteurellaceae based on rpoB sequences

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2004
Sequences of the gene encoding theβ-subunit of the RNA polymerase (rpoB) were used to delineate the phylogeny of the familyPasteurellaceae. A total of 72 strains, including the type strains of the major described species as well as selected field isolates, were included in the study.

Association of rpoB mutations with rifampicin resistance in Mycobacterium avium

International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, 2006
The susceptibility of clinical isolates of Mycobacterium avium to rifampicin (RIF) was examined. All 32 clinical isolates tested, including 18 from Japan, 13 from Poland and 1 from Thailand, were resistant to RIF (minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) > or =32 microg/mL for 17 isolates and 2-16 microg/mL for 15 isolates), whereas the type strain of ...
