Failed "nonaccelerating" models of prokaryote gene regulatory networks

open access: yes, 2004
Much current network analysis is predicated on the assumption that important biological networks will either possess scale free or exponential statistics which are independent of network size allowing unconstrained network growth over time. In this paper,

Supercoil induced S1 hypersensitive sites in the rat and human ribosomal RNA genes

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1986
Rat and human ribosomal RNA gene fragments in supercoiled plasmids were examined for S1 nuclease hypersensitivity. In the transcribed portion of genes the number and distribution of S1 sites were found to be species specific. No S1 sites were detected in the promoter regions. In the nontranscribed spacer (NTS), downstream of the 3' end of 28S RNA gene,

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

The PSI-U1 snRNP interaction regulates male mating behavior in Drosophila

open access: yes, 2016
Alternative pre-mRNA splicing (AS) is a critical regulatory mechanism that operates extensively in the nervous system to produce diverse protein isoforms.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Subsampling Algorithms for Semidefinite Programming

open access: yes, 2011
We derive a stochastic gradient algorithm for semidefinite optimization using randomization techniques. The algorithm uses subsampling to reduce the computational cost of each iteration and the subsampling ratio explicitly controls granularity, i.e.
