Epigenetic Aging in Brain Tissue of the Self‐Fertilizing Vertebrate, Kryptolebias marmoratus

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Using the self‐fertilizing vertebrate Kryptolebias marmoratus, we developed an epigenetic clock from brain tissue that predicts chronological age with high accuracy, demonstrating that DNA methylation changes consistently with age even in the near absence of genetic variation. The 40 age‐associated CpG sites identified map to genes with conserved roles

Microscopic and molecular aspects of skeletal muscle alterations in cerebral palsy

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 68, Issue 3, Page 343-357, March 2026.
Cerebral palsy, caused by non‐progressive brain injury, is frequently accompanied by skeletal muscle alterations. This review synthesizes current evidence from muscle biopsy studies, revealing cellular and molecular adaptations in muscle tissue. Abstract Cerebral palsy (CP), the most prevalent childhood‐onset motor disability, frequently entails ...

Optogenetic Monitoring of the Glutathione Redox State in Engineered Human Myocardium

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Redox signaling affects all aspects of cardiac function and homeostasis. With the development of genetically encoded fluorescent redox sensors, novel tools for the optogenetic investigation of redox signaling have emerged.

Defective myogenesis in the absence of the muscle-specific lysine methyltransferase SMYD1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The SMYD (SET and MYND domain) family of lysine methyltransferases harbor a unique structure in which the methyltransferase (SET) domain is intervened by a zinc finger protein–protein interaction MYND domain.

Effects of GaAs laser and stretching on muscle contusion in rats

open access: yesFisioterapia e Pesquisa, 2016
Laser and stretching are used to treat skeletal muscle injuries. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of GaAs laser and stretching in the morphology of the tibialis anterior (TA) muscle after contusion.

Rapamycin Alleviates Heart Failure Caused by Mitochondrial Dysfunction and SERCA Hypoactivity in Syntaxin 12/13 Deficient Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 31, August 21, 2025.
Rapamycin alleviates heart failure via TFEB and CaMKII pathways in Syntaxin 12/13 deficient models. Stx12 deficiency causes heart failure via impaired iron trafficking to mitochondria, reducing respiratory complexes and sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+‐ATPase (SERCA).

Titin mutations in iPS cells define sarcomere insufficiency as a cause of dilated cardiomyopathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Human mutations that truncate the massive sarcomere protein titin [TTN-truncating variants (TTNtvs)] are the most common genetic cause for dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), a major cause of heart failure and premature death.

Effects of Reduced Training Volume of Nordic Hamstring Exercise on Eccentric Knee Flexor Strength, and Fascicle Length and Stiffness of Biceps Femoris Long Head

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Medicine &Science in Sports, Volume 35, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT This study investigated whether and how ultralow‐volume Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE) training can maintain neuromuscular adaptations achieved through initial moderate‐volume training. Specifically, we examined changes in eccentric knee flexor strength, fascicle length, and stiffness of the biceps femoris long head (BFlh) across different ...

Table2_Extracellular vesicle characteristics and microRNA content in cerebral palsy and typically developed individuals at rest and in response to aerobic exercise.XLSX

open access: yes, 2022
In this study, the properties of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) were examined in cerebral palsy (CP) and typically developed (TD) individuals at rest and after aerobic exercise, focusing on the size, concentration, and microRNA cargo of EVs ...

Device for lengthening of a musculotendinous unit by direct continuous traction in the sheep

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2012
Background Retraction, atrophy and fatty infiltration are signs subsequent to chronic rotator cuff tendon tears. They are associated with an increased pennation angle and a shortening of the muscle fibers in series.
