Resembling mesenchymal stem cell microenvironment with growth factors loaded synthetic coral matrix for bone tissue engineering

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The important factor in the design and realization of tissue engineering is the structure of three-dimensional (3D) synthetic scaffold that functions as synthetic extracellular matrix (ECM) which mimicking natural cell environment and preserve bioactive ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

The selection and application of design methodologies for the design of bone tissue scaffolds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Research motivation: Bone tissue scaffolds offer a way forward in a strategy to change from tissue replacement to tissue regeneration. Bone tissue scaffolds are a combination of a physical construct, with clearly defined three-dimensional spatial ...

Development of a tissue-engineered oral mucosal barrier model using poly (l-lactic acid) electrospun nanofibers

open access: yesScientific Reports
The oral mucosa is a crucial barrier that defends against external factors and regulates tissue permeability. To advance trans-epithelial drug delivery and dental biomaterials research, a robust in vitro model of oral mucosal tissue is needed. This study

Tissue-engineered repair material for pelvic floor dysfunction

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is a highly prevalent urogynecology disorder affecting many women worldwide, with symptoms including pelvic organ prolapse (POP), stress urinary incontinence (SUI), fecal incontinence, and overactive bladder syndrome (OAB).

Functional scaffolding and self-scaffolding [PDF]

open access: yesNew Ideas in Psychology, 2005
Abstract Models of the nature of representation and cognition ground and constrain models of the construction of representation in learning and development: models of what is being constructed ground and constrain models of the processes of construction.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Silica–gelatin hybrids for tissue regeneration : inter-relationships between the process variables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Owing to their diverse range of highly tailorable material properties, inorganic/organic hybrids have the potential to meet the needs of biodegradable porous scaffolds across a range of tissue engineering applications.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
