Stem Cell Secretome for Spinal Cord Repair: Is It More than Just a Random Baseline Set of Factors?

open access: yesCells, 2021
Hundreds of thousands of people suffer spinal cord injuries each year. The experimental application of stem cells following spinal cord injury has opened a new era to promote neuroprotection and neuroregeneration of damaged tissue.

Genome analyses of the sunflower pathogen Plasmopara halstedii provide insights into effector evolution in downy mildews and Phytophthora. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Downy mildews are the most speciose group of oomycetes and affect crops of great economic importance. So far, there is only a single deeply-sequenced downy mildew genome available, from Hyaloperonospora arabidopsidis.

A Vascular Microphysiological Model of Lung Fibrosis Reveals That Myofibroblasts and IPF Patient‐Derived Fibroblasts Impair Angiogenesis and Vasculogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A microphysiological lung fibrosis model recapitulates myofibroblast–vascular interactions. Induced myofibroblasts and patient‐derived IPF fibroblasts impair angiogenesis and increase vascular permeability via TGF‐β1–driven signaling. Pharmacological interventions with SB 431542 and VEGF supplementation restore vascular morphology and barrier function.

Kingdom-wide analysis of fungal small secreted proteins (SSPs) reveals their potential role in host association

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2016
Fungal secretome consists of various functional groups of proteins, many of which participate in nutrient acquisition, self-protection, or manipulation of the environment and neighboring organisms.

Analysis of the proteome and the secretome of animal trypanosomes : a standardized analytical method to look for new molecular targets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The causative agents of animal trypanosomosis are various species of protozoan parasites belonging to the genus Trypanosoma, among which T. congolense and T. evansi are the major pathogenic species. The extra cellular position of the trypanosomes implies

Regulation of tissue crosstalk by skeletal muscle-derived myonectin and other myokines. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The integrated control of animal physiology requires intimate tissue crosstalk, a vital task mediated by circulating humoral factors. As one type of these factors, adipose tissue-derived adipokines have recently garnered attention as important regulators

Synthetic Nanobiology Actuated Lipometabolic Cell Factory for Autologous Tumor Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
FA plays a crucial role in the interaction between tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment, especially for the immune response. A biocatalytic immunoenhancement strategy is developed to boost antitumor immunity by FA metabolic orientation to ceramide. Through the design of this delicate catalytic immunoenhancement strategy, the synthetic nanobiology

Characterization of the polarized endothelial secretome [PDF]

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2019
Endothelial cells (ECs) form an active barrier between the circulation and the body. In addition to controlling transport of molecules between these 2 compartments, the endothelium is a major secretory organ, releasing proteins both into the circulation and into the vascular matrix.

Microvesicles as vehicles for tissue regeneration: Changing of the guards [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Purpose of Review: Microvesicles (MVs) have been recognised as mediators of stem cell function, enabling and guiding their regenerative effects. Recent Findings: MVs constitute one unique size class of extracellular vesicles (EVs) directly shed from ...
