Amino acid uptake in Arabidopsis [PDF]
Nitrogen (N) is essential for all living organisms and is considered to be the limiting factor for plant growth in many ecosystems. Although generally believed to rely on mineral N to fulfill their N needs, plants have also been found to access organic N

ABSTRACT Background Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) are at risk of severe outcomes from SARS‐CoV‐2 (SCV2). In the post‐pandemic context, where most children have been infected with SCV2, there are limited data on whether vaccination remains beneficial in children with ALL.

Scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI) mediates the selective uptake of HDL cholesteryl esters (CEs) and facilitates the efflux of unesterified cholesterol. SR-BI expression in macrophages presumably plays a role in atherosclerosis.

ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

The direct non-endocytotic uptake of cholesteryl esters (CE) from high density lipoprotein (HDL) plays a major role in HDL CE metabolism in rats and rabbits. In vitro evidence indicates it may also play such a role in humans.

The selective uptake of mercury by myocardial infarcts in the rat
Abstract Rats with myocardial infarcts, sham operated and control animals were treated with methoxyethyl mercury chloride (MEMC) intra-peritoneally or with mercamphamide intravenously or intra-peritoneally and the mercury content in the hearts determined spectrophotometrically with dithizone after various time intervals.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

ApoA-II modulates the association of HDL with class B scavenger receptors SR-BI and CD36
The class B scavenger receptors SR-BI and CD36 exhibit a broad ligand binding specificity. SR-BI is well characterized as a HDL receptor that mediates selective cholesteryl ester uptake from HDL.

Background The therapeutic use of [131I]meta-iodobenzylguanidine ([131I]MIBG) is often accompanied by hematological toxicity, mainly consisting of persistent and severe thrombocytopenia.

Identification and functional characterisation of a class on non-selective cation channels in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. [PDF]
Na⁺ accumulation is a significant component in salt toxicity in plants. Although many proteins that facilitate Na⁺ flux have been identified in plants, investigations aimed at identifying the initial mechanism of Na⁺ entry into plants have failed.
