The regulation of Sema4D exodomain shedding by protein kinase A in platelets
We have previously shown that Sema4D expressed on the platelet plasma membrane can be cleaved by the metalloprotease ADAM17, producing a 120-kDa exodomain fragment that retains biological activity and remnant fragments of 24-28 kDa that remain associated with the platelet membrane. This process is modulated by calmodulin.

Semaforin Sema4D in the Immune System in Multiple Sclerosis
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2014The expression of class IV semaforin Sema4D and its CD72 receptor on lymphocytes was studied in patients with multiple sclerosis. The disease was associated with an increase in Sema4D level on intact T lymphocytes and with its more intense shedding from the membrane of activated cell.

Sema4D as a biomarker for Predicting rheumatoid arthritis disease activity
Clinical Rheumatology, 2023The semaphorins are membrane or secreted proteins first identified in neural development. Semaphorin 4D (Sema4D) is the first family member found to have immune properties. We evaluated the potential of Sema4D as a marker for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity, singly and in combination with other known biomarkers including rheumatoid factor ...

Biological functions and signaling of a transmembrane semaphorin, CD100/Sema4D
Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2004The semaphorin proteins were identified originally as axonal guidance factors functioning during neuronal development. In addition to this function, several semaphorins play diverse roles outside the nervous system. The class 4 semaphorin CD100/Sema4D, which utilizes plexin-B1 and CD72 as receptors, exerts important biological effects on a variety of ...

Involvement of Sema4D in the control of microglia activation
Neurochemistry International, 2009Microglia normally exist in a resting state characterized by a ramified morphology, and are responsible for immune surveillance in the CNS. However, the resting microglia rapidly transform towards an activated phenotype in response to brain injury or immunological stimuli.
