Subunit III of ruminant procarboxypeptidase A‐S6 complexes and pancreatic proteases E a new family of pancreatic serine endopeptidases?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1988
Subunit III (BSIII) of the bovine ternary complex of procarboxypeptidase A‐S6 (PCPA‐S6), a defective serine endopeptidase‐like protein, actively synthesized by the pancreas of some ruminant species, is highly homologous to human protease E (HPE). Both proteins possess the same atypical disulfide bridge in position 98–99b.

The role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 5, Page 857-869, May 2026.
Disrupted lipid metabolism, through alterations in lipid species or lipid droplet accumulation, can drive neuronal senescence. However, lipid dyshomeostasis can also occur alongside neuronal senescence, further amplifying tissue damage. Delineating how lipid‐induced senescence emerges in neurons and glial cells, and how it contributes to ageing and ...

Fibroblast activation protein is dispensable in the anti-influenza immune response in mice.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Fibroblast activation protein alpha (FAP) is a unique dual peptidase of the S9B serine protease family, being capable of both dipeptidyl peptidase and endopeptidase activities. FAP is expressed at low level in healthy adult organs including the pancreas,

Intracellular Aβ42 Sequestration by a Serine Protease Mitigates Neurotoxicity in a Drosophila Alzheimer's Disease Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 26, 8 May 2026.
Emerging evidence suggests that intraneuronal Aβ accumulation represents an early pathogenic event in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Using Drosophila AD model, this study shows that a nonsecreted serine protease Yip7 physically interacts with Aβ. This causes intraneuronal Aβ accumulation but surprisingly reduces the associated neurotoxicity, arguing that ...

Abi3S212F Alzheimer's disease variant alters plaque structure and disrupts microglia

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Genetic variants affecting microglial function can influence Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The AD‐associated ABI3S209F (Abi3S212F in mouse) variant regulates cytoskeletal dynamics, but its in vivo impact on pathology is unknown. METHODS: An Abi3S212F mouse was developed and crossed with

Modulation of posterior intestinal mucosal proteome in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) after Yersinia ruckeri infection

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2019
Yersinia ruckeri is the causative agent of enteric redmouth disease in salmonids. In fish, the intestine represents an important site of nutrient uptake, host–pathogen interactions, and defense.

Novel Insights Into the Association Between Parkinson's Disease and Constipation: Role of SHMT2 as a Promising Biomarker

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study integrated bioinformatics analysis, cellular models, and PD/constipation mouse models to identify SHMT2 as a key shared biomarker linking Parkinson's disease and constipation. SHMT2 upregulation was validated in dopaminergic neurons and the enteric nervous system, highlighting its potential role in gut–brain axis dysfunction.

A Single Dual-Function Enzyme Controls the Production of Inflammatory NOD Agonist Peptidoglycan Fragments by Neisseria gonorrhoeae

open access: yesmBio, 2017
Neisseria gonorrhoeae gonococcus (GC) is a Gram-negative betaproteobacterium and causative agent of the sexually transmitted infection gonorrhea. During growth, GC releases lipooligosaccharide (LOS) and peptidoglycan (PG) fragments, which contribute ...

Global transcriptome analysis of the heat shock response of Bifidobacterium longum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Bifidobacteria are natural inhabitants of the human gastrointestinal tract and have been widely used as functional foods in different products. During industrial processing, bacterial cells undergo several stresses that can limit large-scale production ...

Mammary Fibroblasts Secrete Damage Associated Molecular Patterns Through Extracellular Vesicles in Response to Ionizing Radiation

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Biology, Volume 5, Issue 5, May 2026.
We show that ionizing radiation (IR)‐induced damage in mammary fibroblasts results in a senescence‐like phenotype including enhanced EV and cytokine secretion. Proteomic profiling revealed that IR‐induced EVs are enriched with damage associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) and pro‐inflammatory mediators.
